Who would you guys recommend to cut a 16" barrel to 14.5" and permanently attach the FH?
TIA. |

I haven't looked locally yet, but from what I've seen so far I'd rather ship it to someone with a good rep working on AR's. I guess they'd still have to cut it, thread it, then pin and/or weld the flash hider in place? All of our local smiths are monkeys with wrenches. Been burned by shoddy work several times locally. The last one I used scratched up my shotgun on a simple sight install. I won't take anything to a local shop anymore. Like you, I look for people with a good rep on that type of firearm. I just sent an upper off to ADCO. I am now waiting on the big brown truck, but from when I sent it to when I got the tracking number back home was about 5 days. Very quick turn around. |

Those same munky rench guys are everywhere. Yellow pages are full of them. It's surprising how little the local "gunsmith" have in skill. I'd sooner find a good Machinist than turn over a fire-arm to some. My experience is if the rack is full of a mix of bolt guns, gas guns, shot guns and pistols. Walk away. Find a specialist for each. Most Rifle smiths, Pistol smiths and whatever the Shot gunners have as a counterpart take great pride in their craft. You may have to wait for their services. It will be worth the wait. One of the great advantages of the AR platform is we can build them. I asked Jim Cloward why he hated AR's so much. He said. "Because anyone, can put one together". Jim is one of the premier Rifle smiths in the world. You made a good choice 458 |
