I put a Larue Tactical free-floating handguard on my Bushmaster a little while ago. I recently got some BUIS for the gun and tried to sight it in using the irons, and to get the gun sighted in I had to crank the windage way over to the right. Obviously, this didn't make sense because I have had other scopes and sights on the gun before and never had to do that. After looking at it very closely, I think the rail on the upper isn't lining up perfectly with the rail on the handguard. I loosened up the handguard to get it lined up but I'm having issues with it because the handguard has just a little bit of side to side play. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Matt |

easy. loosen the rail up. bridge the gap between the upper and the rail with something like an M4 carry handle. That will stablize the gap, and insure a nice, perfectly straight section of rail :) Ok, easy enough. And then I just tighten the shit out of the knurled ring right? Is there anything I should do to make sure that it doesn't move or will that little keeper thingy do the trick? |

Well I just tried that and it won't work because I don't have anything that will attach to both rails. The only thing I have long enough is a Larue one-piece scope mount and it won't mount across because the knurled ring gets in the way. Are there any things that will attach across the rails with a Larue handguard? Any other suggestions?

If you continue with this method, there is a good chance you will chew up your rail a bit with whatever you are trying to clamp it together and make it move with. The correct method is to adjust the barrel nut and check your alignment until it is perfect. |

Is this something I'm going to need a gunsmith to do? |

Take the rail off and tighten/loosen untill the hole the gas tube goes thru is alligned perfectly. |

There should be no play whatsoever if the Larue HG is on properly. Make sure you properly torque the barrel nut 3 times. ( torque to spec, loosen up, 3 times)
Then tighten the barrel nut until the gas tube hole is properly aligned. May have to go past the recommended torque to get the hole aligned. Go here for the Larue install instructions. www.laruetactical.us/lt/handguards.html Your upper receiver may also be slightly out of square. I have a Larue 11" and once installed is rock solid, and perfectly inline with my uppers rail.(across the top, and down both sides) |
