Since I kinda cheated on my first build I thought I would do a complete build.  After looking through a lot of the photo threads I like the black/dark earth(tan) builds, so that's where I'm heading. My local shop was running Sabre Defense stripped lowers for $109 so I picked one up this afernoon to begin the build.

In my searching for the uppers and lower for my first build I notice that most places sell lower kits with a pistol grip. Since I'm going tan I really don't need a black grip, does anyone sell a lower kit without the grip? or will they swap out the black for a tan grip?

No. Just get the LPK and buy a FDE MIAD to go with it. I've got a whole bucket full of A2 PG's.

Larry's in Huntsville?

I bought 3 of them just before the craze and have one built up. The other two are complete uppers now, awaiting uppers.

Have fun!

I'll start looking for a kit.

I got the rest of my parts from PK. They are very good to deal with.

Bravo Company has DPMS kits on sale for $49.95 so I went a head and picked up one along with a Magpul dark earth trigger guard. Maybe I'll get it pretty quick so I'll have something to do while I'm at work during the holidays

Got my lower kit, Magpul pistol grip, trigger guard and Pmag. This build may get slowed down a bit, my wife lost her job on Monday so the $$$ may get tight for a while.

Adco will let you swap to other pistol grips when purchasing a LPK.  They are a good company to deal with as well.

ETA: I didn't notice that you had already purchased one.  Have fun with the build.

good luck with the build, i hope your wife finds a new job soon. i'm building a lower like with the same color scheme, are you going to go w/ an FDE stock as well?

Thanks, yep...FDE stock as well. Haven't decided on the upper yet, if I end up with a carbine I'll probably go with the Magpul FDE handguard as well. If not some type of 4-rail guard with FDE covers.

Got the lower put together this evening. I took my time and made sure to tape up everything and it took just over an hour, still waiting on the Magpul stock. I think I've decided on a Stag upper will probably try to order next week. After taking my wife to the range last week and letting her shoot my AR and AK, I think this build may end up being her new gun

That's shaping up really nicely!  Well done! take your time, don't rush so you can savor the experience of building it bit by bit :)

I went with the same color scheme too! Great minds think alike huh.

i went for the same color scheme.  I just got so excited and did not wait to get an FDE knights arm co rail covers.  and i already have a black front grip. So i also agree to savor the fun of building and getting the right parts with right colors so at the end you'll really be happy with your build.

I've already got a Magpul MOE handguard and I picked up a FDE AFG yesterday at a gun show.

Got my Stag 3H upper today and finished the black and tan build. When my wife lost her job just before Christmas I though the build would be put on hold for a while, but she already has something lined up and I found a pretty good deal so there ya go.

With the Magpul Moe handguard the Magpull front sight will not go down. Not really a big deal just to leave it up, or I could turn it around .

His and Hers

I think I'm going to try the M3 clone from Marshall at Primary Arms and maybe the 3X magnifier on the FDE

i've got that same upper sitting in the other room. i believe the gas block is not on the same plane as the upper. it looks lower to me. you may have a problem getting it sighted in. this just a guess. anyone have any expierence with this?

Magpul does state unfortunately that your not supposed to put a MBUS on a gas block because they have been known to melt. FYI

Be a man, let's see the Krylon!

ETA- Does look pretty kickass the way it is, if you decided leave it. Nice build!

I just put a level on it and the gas block is .255" lower

Dont' remember seeing that anywhere. I will be putting optics on so it probably won't get used and it will be used as a range gun by my wife so there won't be that many rounds ran through it so I'm really not worried about melting. I would, however, like to at least make them usuable. Will they be able to be zeroed as is? Does someone make a 1/4" riser?

I have a very similar build, and was saddened to learn that I couldn't use the Magpul front sight on my gas block.

I used a MI FDE front sight. It doesn't quite match but is close enough. Or you could go black.

I found in the Yankee Hill new products section a gas block riser to mount front sights.....just what the doctor ordered. Got one on the way.
