I'm new to all this but I have been doing some extensive research on my options. I have gone from buying a complete rifle, to a del ton kit, and now I'm considering just a del ton complete upper and doing the rest on my own. First of all, http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Barrel_Assembly_p/dt1009.htm is the upper that I'm looking at, but my questions are....does it have M4 feedramps since they call it an "M4" assembly, and is the fact that it's pre ban going to give me any issues? I did read the section on pre ban vs. post ban but it's still slightly confusing to me so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live in IN btw so I'm aware that there is no ban in effect here, just curious if that upper/barrel will work for me.

Yes, it will have M4 feedramps, but that isn't any concern.  The fact that it is pre-ban won't cause you any problems either,  for this upper the only real thing that it means is that there is a bayonet lug.  You would most likely want to add the option for the chrome-lined chamber and bore.

Del-Ton seems to have a good reputation and this upper should work great for a first build.

cool, thanks for the quick reply, I plan to have this done by the first of the year. The only other real question I have is the proper procedure for purchasing a stripped lower. There are no good dealers around me and the next gun show in my area isn't until the end of January....So how is this done without an FFL license?

you find a person/shop with an ffl and have it shipped there, you do the paperwork at the dealer's place, so it's like you're buying it from him, only you've already paid for it. usually a ffl dealer will charge you a small fee to use his ffl. Typically you order the part and use the ffl's address as the shipping address, he then faxes a copy of his ffl to the seller with your name and order number on it, and you pick it up and do the paperwork, then go home and be happy.

Thanks for the advice, but I want to build my first AR and pick the parts that I use.
