So I am getting everything in the mail for my first build.  I grabbed tactical inovations lower yesterday and installed the LPK but I have a few questions.

1) The bolt catch doesn't acutally catch the bolt.  It just barely engages the bottom of the bolt.  Even with the magazine in I have to peass the catch for it to work and then it releases on its own 90% of the time.  Do I need to cut the spring down or is there sonthing else I whould look at first?
If I do have to cut the spring, how the heck do I get the pin out, I'm guessing I have to use a punch and knock it out...what size?

2) When cycling the bolt, its doesn't return compleatly to the barrel extension, It stops 1/4 inch away and I have to push it the rest.  It would fine if I drop the hammer, and I assume there is a bit of a break in period so I'm not too woried but wanted to make sure that it was ok.

This is the first non-bolt/10-22 that I have owned so I just want to make sure everything is straight before the range this weekend.  Its pretty much a standard ar right now but I'll post some pics later.

Thanks for the help,
  Jeff

Take it back apart and swap the bolt catch and disconnector spring, sounds like you got them swapped.  The disconnector spring is tapered.

As for the bolt, are you riding the charging handle forward?  You need to let go and let it fly.  That and lube it up.

Yeah that was the first thing i checked.  I took the disconnector spring out and made sure it was tapered... and it is.
I'll pull out the bolt catch spring and take a look as soon as I figure out how to get the pin out.
Oh and its a DPMS parts kit if that makes a difference.

You will need a pin punch just small enough to fit in the hole for the roll pin holding the bolt catch in place, then just tap it out.  Hopefully it turns out to be something simple.

Ok, I am going to have to run around town this weekend and look for a punch that will work, but in the meantime I took some pics of the bolt catch fully extended (as high as it will go).  I'm hoping some can send me one of theirs in a simular position so I will know for sure that there is a problem before I take it out.

The bolt catch only catches a small bottom front portion of the bolt in two cases:

1) When you fire the last round in a magazine and the follower presses it up to hold the bolt back.

2) When you pull the charging handle all the way back and pressin the bottom of the bolt catch lever.

To release the bolt you can either pull the charging handle all the way back and let it go or press the top portion of the bolt catch lever.

Do not ride the charging handle.  Simply pull back all the way and let it slingshot home.

Sorry I don't have any pics of the bolt catch raised without the upper on there, but these pics may help.

Here's one that someone put together with the disconnector spring under the bolt catch.  Notice how much of the bottom bolt lug you can see.

Compare that height to the height in this pic where it's assembled correctly, again, look at the bottom lug on the bolt.

Hope that helps a bit.

Yeah, thanks for the pics.   Mike looks suspiciously like the top pic.  Mine barelly touches the tip of one grove on the bolt.  I am not looking forward to having to get than pin out, getting it in was the hardest part for me.

 Thanks again,

Well I pulled the bolt catch out and confirmed that I was using the right spring.  I took some pics of all the parts but forgot them at home.  The only other two options I can think of is that the recess that the catch sits in wasn't milled out enough or there is something weird with the bolt.  I'll post up some pics later but I have a feeling I'm going to have get my hands on another one to compare.

There is a specialty punch made for just that pin. Essentially it is a punch that has been milled on one side to clear the receiver.
