I am in the market for another AR build. I have enough parts laying around to build a upper assembly. All I need is a barrel and a bolt carrier group.
Since I have a plethora of 5.56, and due to the availability of the parts I lack, I was going to stay with 5.56. I keep having erotic dreams about a 6.8mm though. haha. Staying with 5.56: I have been looking at cold forged barrels in 16" w/ midlength gas system on Braco Company. Is buying a BFH barrel worth the difference in price versus a Standard 11595E barrel? I have bought expensive bull barrel's in the past, but this is just going to be a rifle I throw around a bit, unlike my other that I treat like a newborn, but I want it to last a long time. |

For what you're describing any of the BC barrels would suffice and their BCG is or is close to second to none. Overall you'll be pleased with any of their barrels.
6.8 Not a bad idea but are you going to invest in the ammo cost to really shoot it or end up with a rifle and a pile of .223 ammo? |
| oh dont worry, I dont think I'll pull the trigger on the 6.8. The only reasons the idea is haunting me is because none of my shooting bud's have one and I own a beowulf which has been impossible to find ammunition for. I was looking for a good medium with available ammo. 6.5 Grendel was another option but I didnt want to build a throw around grendel, it would be more of a long barrel precision rifle. Then there was the idea of the 7.62 x39mm....and that idea is still lingering minus the fact that i cant find the parts I need, only upper assemblies. The thought of being able to shoot the same ammo guys who are carrying around sks's and ak47's is kind of nice, just in case I ever had to pick up some ammo from someone who left it behind......haaa |
