| Any recommendations for plain-jane free float tubes (rifle-length)? I've seen the DPMS and Hogue tubes, but are there any others out there? Also, do any of them have sling studs on them? Thanks. |

I'll post a picture of mine when I get it. Armalite used to make plain old, straight aluminum/fiberglass tube. It was black or OD green, and installed with a barrel nut and then the tube had an indexing pin and a lock nut. They made them in carbine, mid and rifle. They changed them now so they're contoured really wierd with slots, and the straight ones have rails. You just can't find the old straight plain tubes anywhere.
I found them selling a leftover blemished one and I jumped on it. Rifle length black. I'm going to index it clocked 90* and use the sling stud on the side for the tac-sling. Imagine this without rails http://ee.ar15.com/uploadImages/20090818/3239/Uploaded_633862283016995000_File.JPG |
| Does the DPMS have a sling stud? I know my LR-308's handguards have one. It's about the cheapest I've seen and I like the one on my 308, but I'm wondering how the stud would be indexed bottom center since I'm sure the barrel nut wouldn't tighten to the same position on all receivers... |

You are right about that. Since the advent of railed hand guards, plain FF hand guards are gone, and the prices on railed stuff is outrageous. Might try YHM. I had one of their smooth ff that only had a rail on top, and 3 2" rails on sides and bottom. I used them for BUIS on top and Bipod on bottom on my old Recce. I thought it was great and under a hundred bucks. http://yankeehill.bizland.com/store/media/YHM-5005_2.jpg I think this is a best FF tube I've seen out there. I honestly would probably just go handguards though unless you really are worried about every last iota of accuracy you can get. |

The cheapest I could find was around $135. It does look like a good option though. |

They also have a regular tube for $47. Link Here. |
| i have always been happy with this one from dpms. it doesnt cost much and works fine. i needed one when they were backordered and spent just as much for a plain tube on ebay that was a POS. i have no need for all the rails on my little boom sticks. |

I think I might go with this - it cheap, plain, and I like the one on my LR-308. Reading the reviews on Midway, it says I will have to drill and tap it, but that's no big deal. I like the Yankee Hill one, but I'll wait for my next rifle to put that one on Thanks for the help everyone!

| if you want to wait this is a decent one for the price. i would use it again on a build |

Look in the Industry section under Brightflashlights. I've bought my YHM hardware from Kevin and have gotten great prices. He some times post sales on Blems as well.

I think I'm going to go with the DPMS tube on this build, but I've ordered some flashlight gear from Kevin and was completely happy with his prices and service. |
