Doublestars are just fine. I've built several, and still have several more in the safe. If you haven't purchased one yet though, check out the billet lowers for sale on Centerfiresystems.com for $79

I've got 3 of them, and they're kick-ass.

Every Double Star I've ever seen has that flashing.I don't think thier uppers look very clean compared to DPMS .RRA,Smith and Wesson and some others that do a good finishing and machining of the lower receiver.
Compare a Double Star to a DPMS and tell me who's lower looks the best. The DPMS will look much better.

I've never had a problem with the lowers I have used for builds.

Have to agree on the flash not being as pretty as some lowers. Wouldn't take too much more effort to clean them up properly during production. I really wish they would.

However, in terms of functionality, they' have been 100% with me. Which is more than I can say for a lot of lowers I've dealt with.

If looks are a big enough issue to you, by all means, grab something that looks the way you want.

Not that I hold this against them, but the only "bad" lower (other than Vulcan crap that I have seen others with) that I've ever had was a DSC.  It was missing the hole for the safety detent.  I have used other DSC since without issue.  Other than that, I would list the fit and finish on them as "fair".

My only knock on them is that they have a glossy finish that doesn't match any of my uppers.  Depending on how much are you are going to pay, I'd suggest others ($79 Billet from Centerfire, $85 Spikes, etc...)

I have a DS upper on a DPMS lower. They match VERY well, and I think that the DS has a better finish. The DPMS seems to have a slightly pitted appearance in the metal. The finish isn't flawed in any way, but the DS is definitely smoother. Maybe just a thicker finish, but smoother. If anyone is actually looking at a rifle that closely that they are upset by that then they probably will never get the same joy from shooting that I do. I can't see the finish when its covered in mud anyway.
