I'm trying to tap in the roll pin for the gas block. Using a brass punch and a hammer, I got it in about 3/4 way, but the gas tube seems slightly misaligned. I can't hammer it in any furthur: I think it's getting caught on the other side of the gas block.

I want to tap it back out and try again, but I don't have the appropriate size punch for tapping it out. The gas tube pins are 5/64th inch. Is it possible for me to tap out what I've done so far with a 1/16th inch? I'm getting a set of steel punches as the brass ones I have deform after some use.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah get a set of quality steel punches. You want to make sure that the gas tube aligns on both sides of the block, before you start driving pins. If it doesn't allign correctly, you may need to tighten (or loosen) your barrel nut just a hair more.

You NEED roll pin punches for roll pins!!!!!
Drift pin punches will deform the roll pins…
Also, a roll pin starter is very helpful to have…

Got it, roll pin punches are in the mail. In the meantime, any tricks on getting this stuck pin out?

Wait for the proper punch, and drive it out the other way. If the tube isn't lined up, you may need to pull the pin out with a pair of vice grips. Don't plan on being able to reuse the pin though, in that case.

Alright. I have a few spare pins so I'll use a new one. Thanks, and I'll write back in a few days when I deal with this again.
