Already have a Colt HBAR.
Looking to build my first AR, and doing some research and making a shopping list. With all the different manufacturers out there, is any one company better for a particular part than the other? and why? ie, Would it be better get a lower from ABC or 123, a upper from XYZ or 987, a upper parts kit from A1B or Z9X.... I know I want a bench / varmint style with maybe a 20 '' barrel. Any suggestions on the parts I decide on? |

I am going through the same th8ng right now my self. I am putting my list together for my first build, a carbine not a varmit.
From what I have seen the following companies are gtg ot order from: Bravo Company Spikes LaRue Tactical PK Firearms Rainer Arms I have not bought anything from any of these vender's but, Bravo did spend some time with me in e-mail helping me decide on parts to get and clearing some confusion for me. All of the vender's I listed have a great reputation on here and I have seen all but the last two offer great CD on this board. Just note that because I haven't seen it does not mean the last two don't have great CS. I hope this helps. |

I can speak up on spikes.. both upper and lower no problems with either and both had outstanding finish on them. both were purchased as stripped .
the only downside of building you own is parts availability.. I did not want to wait 90 days or 6 months for parts.. everyone I ordered from had parts in stock. if you are building for varmints I dont know if chrome bore and chamber are the way to go.. chrome molly barrels with out chrome chamber and bore are more accurate, .. chrome bore and chamber last longer and easier to clean |

Is there a upper assembly list and tips somewhere on here? I have looked, but have not found one. There is a good part list here:
http://www.midwayusa.com/Static/ar-15VarmintRifleInstructions.aspx BUT, I would rather find a list here... Also a How-to would be great... |
