isn't short stroking commonly associated with the gas system or the buffer spring?

rifle kit had gas system already installed. spring also came with the kit. do you think that I should change the spring?

how does 1 check the gas system?

i know you can check around the gas block for signs of a gas leak. i'm not sure how you would check for a leak around the gay key though.

This is a long shot but it can give you fits if this is it.  When the gas port is drilled it throws up a burr on the inside of the barrel. Yah, we all know this.  But when you shoot it, once in a blue moon the bullet can push the burr back up into the gas port, blocking it.  The ONLY way to find out if this is the problem is to remove the gas block and check for anything that is blocking the gas port, and while it is off, check to make sure the gas port in the gas block and the gas tube are clear too.
Also, make sure the gas block is 1/32 inch off the rear face of the barrel shoulder.  If you are not using the delta ring on your forend, which you are not, then the gas block should not be snug up against the barrel shoulder.  The gap is there for the delta ring so when it is not used you must make an allowance for it, setting the gas block 1/32 inch (.031 inch) off the barrel shoulder.

Try a lube not quite as thick as grease ?

Check the bolt and gas rings ?

Check if the gas tube is rubbing the key ?

    Check gas block alignment ?

God bless

Most short stroking issues I have seen are gas related...

Whats the length of the gas tube? Alignment?  Is it clean?

Try a lighter buffer if you can.

I would try some different kinds of ammo first before I tore into it

How does one check to see if the gas tube is rubbing on the key ? I am having some issues with mine as well but didn't think this was probably an issue. It slides in and locks in like my other ar's do, but it is one more think to check and eliminate from being the problem. Is there a fix for it ? Thanks

will have to tear into the rifle to remove the gas tube for measuring. the rifle is brand new. only took it out twice since I bought it. short stroking from the beginning.

should I run a thin piece of metal down the gas tube & check to see if it is plugged up with something?

also, how hard is it to put the gas block back on once you have removed it?

thanks

the way i check my gas tube to see if it is plugged is by putting my finger in the chamber to plug it and putting muzzle in mouth and blowing. the air should go out gas tube in receiver. i know it sounds retarded but it worked for me when i plugged my gas port with 22lr doo doo.

Measure gas port.  Is it .093?  If not, buy a No 42 drill bit .093" and redrill hole.
Re-test fire with desired ammo with ONE round in mag. Try four times.
Did bolt lock back each time?
If not, buy a No 41 drill bit  .096" and redrill hole.

Curious:  velocity of "ammo centurion 55 gr 193"?
