Hello.  I put together a 727 carbine clone as a gift for my nephew who just returned from Iraq.  When I test fired it at the range I had to adjust the rear sight all the way to left to get it to zero.  It is an A1 style upper.  Any ideas on why this might be.  The front sight base looks good, it does not appear to be canted off center.  Luckily it is perfectly zeroed at 50 meters but the rear sight is as far as it can go to the left.  Any thoughts on why it is this far off center?  Thanks in advance.

Barrel was over torqued. Have a gunsmith take off barrel and redo it without the power of a 800lb Gorilla.

Most likely the front sight base is canted to the left.  This can happen if an upper receiver action vise is used.  Loosen the barrel nut then use a set of barrel vise blocks to hold the barrel rather than the receiver.  Retorque the barrel nut, reassembly the gas tube then recheck your zero.  Depending on which method you use to hold either the barrel or the receiver will determine which direction the index pin contacts the receiver slot.
