Who makes a good solid collapsible stock  for a reasonable price?

Good and reasonable are subjective terms.  However, I am a huge fan of the MagPul CRT and MOE stocks.

Like Jason said, it depends on what you want in your stock.  If you're looking for the typical CAR stock, they're all the same.  If you want light, rugged, and cheap - get the MagPul MOE stock and source a buffer/tube/spring somewhere.  If you want feature rich, you have a lot of choices, but not cheap - MagPul UBR, MagPul ACS, Vltor eMod, LMT SopMod, Rock River Operator, etc.

Is there a big difference in buffer tubes other then Mil spec?

nuufer tubes are mil-spec or comerical.

I try and get the mil-spec ones, but don't stay awake at night if I can't get one.

If it's a CAR stock with a mil-spec tube you're after, call up Tactical Machining and ask for their 50$ stock kit special.  Includes the buffer, the tube, the spring, the plate, the castle nut, and the stock.  Everything you need, for the lowest price out there.  Enjoy.

I'm a huge fan of the SOPMOD & CTR. Two best stocks on currently on the market IMO.

Well, I don't know what "reasonable" or "solid" mean to you, but, going by what they mean to me, I'm going to recommend the Magpul CTR.  It has a lock that, once engaged, pretty much eliminates wobble, making the CTR feel as "solid" as a fixed stock.  I'd recommend going with a mil spec buffer tube, and, of course the CTR that's made specifically for mil spec buffer tubes.  You should be able to get the CTR, buffer tube, buffer, spring, receiver end plate, and castle nut for right at $150.

Magpul CTR mil-spec size stock

Magpul MOE mil-spec size stock

I would recommend the MOE for a good value stock, mine fits snug, no rattles, on my mil-spec size CMT buffer tube, there is a very slow very small rotational movement but better than my old M4 stock and it doesn't affect accuracy when shooting.

The CTR cost a little more but you get a second friction lock that prevents any movement at all, feels like a solid stock, it also adds a quick detachable sling mount, both these stocks have well designed and attached rubber buttpads with optional medium and thick buttpads available.

Both are available in mil-spec and commercial size, if you don't have a buffer tube yet I would recommend the mil-spec size because if you upgrade your stock in the future you will have more choices of mil-spec size stocks, plus it's more structurally stronger than the commercial version.

I am happy with my Tapco 6 posistion stock for $50..Solid stock . Cant see paying $85 for another stag stock that I have that works all the same. Commercial or MIl spec makes no difference  ROCK RIver arms, Bushmaster and many more use a commericial spec tube and they run just fine.

If it going to be your one Ar15 dream build gun buy a fancy one..If for the kids to shoot or a backup gun the tapco is fine for a cheap sturdy stock..
