I just found out im about a 30min drive from Lothar Walther in Germany and am thinking about ordering a barrel from them hoping i can get a deal. I will be using it on a Stag 3hl with adams arms piston. What Im looking for is:
Wylde chamber 14.5in Lightweight Fluted Ambi Barrel extension My questions are: What twist should I get if Im using surplus ammo? If i cannot get a ambi barrel extension where could i get one installed? Anyone remember who was selling the stag leftys uppers with BCG at a good price? |

i hadn't realized barrel extensions, (chamber), were right handed... but i'm pretty n00b. from what i understand surplus ammo is 62 grain? 1-9 twist or 1-7 would be fine. i have a 1-9 and it is very accurate with a red dot at 100yrd. the military, (U.S.), uses a 1-7 so if you want to go with that, surplus ammo would be ok. good luck and good shooting! |
| Yea barrel extensios as best as I can describe have ramps to help rotate the bolt ambi bolts have them in both directions. Yea we use a 1/7 but AFAIK the barrels we designed for the 55gr. All my surplus ammo is 62gr just wanted to make sure I'm gettin my moneys worth if I shell out for a custom barrel |

All my surplus ammo is 62gr just wanted to make sure I'm gettin my moneys worth if I shell out for a custom barrel Viet Nam era M16's were 1-12 twist & 55 grain bullets . Uncle Sugar went to a faster twist for the 62 grain bullet . As some one else stated , 1 - 9 to 1 - 7 should be fine . Most of my AR's are 1 - 9 . The ramps on the barrel extension are to help guide the nose of the bullet into the chamber . The bolt head does its own rotating , when gas pressure forces it forward or the other way when the BCF slams forward under spring pressure . The barrel extension " accepts " the bolt head and the lugs of the bolt head lock with the barrel extension ( reverse lugs ? ) as the bolt head rotates . God bless wyr |
