Look for the 'Thread and install a 1-40 x 1/8 Allen head setscrew' thread.

You'll love it, and it'll make you feel virile and manly.

This.

Very simple mod. You need a 4-40 tap (and a tap handle), a 4-40 setscrew, and a .050" allen wrench.

The screw, like the detent, is tiny, so be careful not to lose it.

Run the tap down into the detent spring hole just deep enough for the setscrew to turn in flush. You won't need to drill it larger, the tap fits the existing hole.

Cut a piece off one end of the spring roughly equal to the length of the screw (about 1/8").

Make sure the hole is cleaned out, you don't want any metal shavings left behind. Reinstall the takedown pin, detent, and shortened spring (factory end against the detent). Install the setscrew and test the function of the takedown pin. It should operate exactly as it did before.

No more airborne detent springs!

Sounds like an integrity issue.

Your character is worth much more than the the few dollars saved.

By the way I think the modification is a great idea.
