Almost finished with my second AR build.  This time I'm using a fixed stock.  I tightened the screw on the buffer tube end, but there is a 1/8" gap/play between the stock and the receiver.  Seems like I'm missing a shim(?).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  SB

Is the buffer tube tight against the rear of the receiver?

there is no shim or spacer between the front of an A1 or A2 fixed stock and the receiver (tube) extension, there is however a spacer that goes on the rear of the receiver extension if you are using an A2 stock (A1 and A2 stocks use the same extension). More info is needed. Type of stock, complete description of how you attached it and what pieces you used..get back to us with more info...don't worry, this is not brain surgery....<><....:)

The gov model 20" HB kit was purchased from Delton with a Roggio receiver.  The plastic buffer tube is screwed in as far as it will go. Yes, there is a spacer at the end of the buffer tube.  How long should the screw be that attaches the butt to the tube?  I watched the video and read the build instructions.  Thanks for the replies, SB

It's black plastic ~10 1/8"long end to end.  SB

I've never hear of a plastic receiver extension.

Some extruded tubes can look and feel like plastic, and even sound like plastic when thumped (I have one that does), but they're not.

If it truly is plastic, I would get it off there and replace it with a metal one before I went any farther!

A1 = 1/2" screw
A2 = 1 1/4" screw   (approximates)

Sounds like your spacer is in backwards causing the gap.

ETA:  I agree with the others about finding a metal tube.

Remove the 2 screws through the trapdoor buttplate.



Remove the buttplate.



Remove the spacer that sits between the buttplate and the rear of buffer tube.



Make sure the buttstock will now slide all the way forward to contact the receiver.



Reinstall the spacer.



Replace the buttplate.  Does the buttplate now sit snugly against the buttstock?  If not, see if it'll 'wiggle' into place until it does.  It sounds like the spacer is slightly out of place.



If it all fits, replace the 2 screws.  If it doesn't fit, get back to us.

Thanks for all the replies.  kaos - yes, to all the above...except after I tighten the screw, it's loose. Everything fits snug, until the screw is snugged.  The screw is 1 1/8 " long.  The spacer is designed so you can't reverse it.  Maybe the screw is too long for this butt stock..it may bottom out (?).    I do not know what type butt Delton sent me.  I have never been able to post pics. Thanks again, SB

Buffer tube may not be plastic, but sure looks like it.

Buffer tube may not be plastic, but sure looks like it.  
Haven't seen this. These usually have a shoulder and go only one way.





OOPS, THAT SAYS CAN'T NOT CAN, MY BAD. Been meaning to take up reading.

My buffer tube screw is 1-1/16" long.  You are using the countersink screw with the drain hole in the center, correct?
If you remove everything from the buffer tube again, the buttstock screw will screw more than far enough into the naked buffer tube hole, correct?
No blue permatex compound on the screw threads?
The larger/flat end of the buffer is not installed into the buffer tube first, correct? The buffer spring is in the tube first, correct?  ( I had to ask. )  




ETA:  If everything is correctly snug to the receiver before you insert the screw, and the screw provides no rearward thrust on the stock/butt plate assembly (there is nothing for the screw to push backwards against), tightening the screw should in no way cause the stock to move away from the receiver.





Is the gap between the stock and receiver the same all around?  Just at top/bottom?





Do you have the rear take down spring correctly inserted into the receiver before assembling the stock?  Does the stock assemble tightly to the receiver if you temporarily remove the take down spring before sliding the stock on?
If you have something different, or if I've described something that does not match the parts you have in hand, get back to us, please.

Yes, there is red permatex on the screw.  Everything seems to fit well.  Thanks again, SB

I had this same problem. Too much crap on the end of the screw for it to tighen up all the way.

Yep, cleaning the threads solved the problem. The fit is good and tight.  The rifle looks good!  Thanks for all the help,  SB
