I need some help, despite being in the army 20+ years I am new to the civilian AR stuff,
I am wanting to build a AR57, and I understand not all lowers will work on it, it has to be mil spec type. who makes a good quality lower for a resonable price. I am ready to buy just unsure which one. is it better to assemble one starting with a striped lower? I would like a better or match grade triger. how dificult is it to assemble one, I have access to a small arms repair guy, and a small arms repair kit (military stuff) thanks SSG James Sanders Iraq vet twice!! |

just put one together on a billet stirpped lower ($289 from denny's guns-link above in the ar15.com ads). used a stag parts kit and took about 1 hr being extra careful not to scratch anything.
only special tool i needed was a castle nut wrench i got for $5.99 used pliers and tape for the rest check this out: ar15.com group buy kit $609 everything but a stripped lower
all this for $609! here's a top quality lower for a great price edit: sorry that group buy ended on 9/1/09, those lowers are now $187. but here's a place selling a matching stag lower for $99. you'll have to pay shipping and probably $35 to your FFL to receive it.
also, that ar15 group buy for $609 has a really long wait time. the one i built was ordered in march and received in september here's a good price $119 for a popular lower for custom builds, made by mega machine shop, it is marked for multi caliber rather than 5.56mm
here's the billet lower i got for $265 from global tactical
be sure to order the "subdued" model if you don't want the white lettering. i can't say enough good things about this lower receiver. it fit like a glove to the stag upper & parts kit, color matched perfectly, amazingly perfect in every way, even has a tension screw to keep that fit from upper to lower nice and snug. the magwell is extra beefy and fits a pmag great last update: here's a Tactical Innovations lower for $109 with all the features of the billet lower i used. it even has the super cool HK style pictogram selector markings, rather than the text "safe/fire" |
