I am a citizen of Connecticut, and as such, am subject to a particularly stupid version of the AWB.

I recently completed my first AR build and am currently working on making it into an SBR. I am looking into stripped barrels, and want to make a Navy EOD MK. 18 clone. When I eventually build this upper, I will require a permanently attached compensator or muzzle brake, as "flash hiders" and threaded barrels are verboten. Also, I will one day wish to put a suppressor on the rifle, so I'm looking into combination muzzle brake/comp/mounts.

I've heard good things about Surefire and Ops Inc. muzzle brakes, but are there any other good (and realistically affordable) options in the muzzle brake/suppressor mount category?

Better yet, any other CT citizens have any advice?

Thanks.

FSC556

Certified by the BATF as a non-flash-suppressing muzzle brake.

That looks pretty good, but it no longer attaches to a suppressor. Gemtech changed their mount design.

Any thoughts on the AAC 51T?

YHM-5M2-QD

That's the YHM Comp/Brake Quick Detach Silencer Mount.  And PWS also makes a version of the FSC556 with YHM threads on it.  It fits your two requirements you listed above - 1. Not a Flash Hider & 2. Inexpensive

The problem I see with that is that after you pin that on, you still have a treaded barrel that can "accept a flash suppressor".  I would suggest a threadless quick detach.

So do you think something like the Surefire brake would be the best bet?

The Surefire brake works great, but then you're limited to a Surefire suppressor when you eventually get around to getting the can. Not necessarily a bad thing but they're one of the most expensive cans out there.

Put whatever you feel like on for now, I'd recommend the FSC556, then just remove and replace it with your can mount when you get one down the road. Permanent doesn't mean irreversible.

Not a bad idea, bushflyr, considering most cans are sold with their mounts.

I've been reading up on pinning and spot-welding brakes and hiders, so that sounds like the route to go! The FSC556 is pretty badass looking, too...

Let me get this straight...you have an AWB in CT but nothing in the law about supressors?

Like I said, we have a particularly stupid version. We are forbidden to have about 10 or 15 specific firearms, as well as largely cosmetic details like flash hiders and bayonet lugs on semi-auto rifles.
