Ok I have a ban style front sight post without the bayonet lug.

How difficult is it to replace this on your own?  I see the DPMS models need the taper pin holes drilled out.  Is this better to let someone else do?

The holes for the pins probably won't line up. You would end up drilling and reaming the holes oversize to have the pins hold. Similar to barreling an AK that doesn't headspace. I've seen a few threads where guys have tapped the FSB for small set screws.

ADCO will mill flats into your barrel for the set screws for $40.00. They will also install and pin an FSB for $90.00-130.00 depending on you or them supplying the FSB.

Another option would be a clamp on type FSB from YHM. They have flip up sights and are available with or without the bayonet lug.

Why do you want a bayo lug?  I don't think anyone ever puts a bayonet on an AR anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with it.

Not to be nit picky, but the front sight "post" is different from the FSB.  It's just confusing when people read the thread title.

But +1 to "who cares?" about the bayo stud.

If you absolutely must have it, I'd recommend selling off the whole upper or barrel over having some hack mod to get a FSB with bayo stud on the gun.  Use the funds from the old barrel to offset some of the cost of a new one.

Well maybe ya'll will talk me out of it.  The thinking was, should another AWB come through in the future, with similar limitations as the last one, might as well already have it than not.

I know thats a lot of assuming, and I'm not sitting at home worrying about it, just a might as well.

I was thinking if it was an easy change for $40 bucks or so I would do it, but I don't see me putting up over a hundred to do it.

Thanks for the advice
