I just bought a new yankee upper this weekend. had a small problem with the fit to my rock river lower. On the back of the back pin block I had to file a small amount off of it to make it fit. Is t his normal???

I had to do that too with RRA lower and DPMS upper before––-those RRA lowers come pretty tight.

They are a very tight fit. Thanks. Just making sure I wasn't doing something wrong,

That's just Rock River's out-of-spec lowers.  Common these days, along with their barely-sprayed-on finish.

RRA lowers have fit tight for yrs. and people always freak out about it. I have a couple RRA lowers that are from around '04 that I actually used a rubber mallet to seat the upper. I used a bit of grease when doing it. Was showed this by a dealer who worked for RRA for a while. They do it intentionally to produce a long time close fit. Those lowers are not as tight now but are in no way loose. They have a nice snug fit. So no you probably didn't need to remove anything. Without looking at it I obviously can't say 100% but I seriously doubt it.

Thanks for the info.I didn't think it would hurt anything by filing on the back pin slot. I do like how it fits together now.  I'm mainly a bolt man and this is my first ar build. Can't wait till I get it all together. One day soon I hope,
