I'm planning on building a general purpose AR on one of my stripped lowers. I want to be able to shoot anywhere from contact to 500yds, and I'm going to drop a fair amount of money on one rifle, so I want to do it right.
Flat top upper
MPIed BCG
20” Colt 1:7” twist 5.56 chambered chrome-lined barrel
Standard gas tube
DD Omega 12" RAS
YHM flip-up front sight gas block
ARMS #40A flip up rear sight
A2 flash hider
Standard Charging handle
Magpul UBR stock
Accuracy Speaks single stage trigger kit
Magpul MIAD
Burris XTR-14 1-4x24mm scope with Fastfire

Couple things I'm not sure of yet:
Brands for the upper reciever and BCG- I'm thinking BCM from Bravo Company for the BCG, but does the brand matter for the upper?
Will an A2 FH adversely effect accuracy?

I'm looking at $1300-1500 for the rifle, and then plus the Burris.
Kinda pricy for a frankengun, but it'll be exactly what I want, so I think it'll be worth it.

Any other advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome to ARFCOM. Man, we're getting a lot of new people lately. That's Cool.

Wow that's a long laundry list. The A2 FH will be fine and inexpensive. AR's are a do it your way thing, like Harley's. Shooting 500 yards...... I'm thinking you may want more power in the scope, things get really small at 500 yards, but then, I'm a FOG. Spec Uppers and Bolt Assemblies are mix and match, as you chose. I've used so many different parts in my builds I don't have a clue who made most of 1/2 my AR's. In general, you get what you pay for......I just bought a couple Daniels Defense Bolt Assemblies through Midway. They are Mil and LE Contract until now. But you go with a brand you feel good about.

Good Luck,

welcome!
looks like a good shopping list. bmc is good to go. budget lots of mags (means 10 or more- i like 44mag). and budget ammo (1-2kto start). sucks to have a gun and no money for ammo. get the gun functional, shoot it, then add toys/upgrades. once you start shooting your ar, you might end up wanting to change something a little or end up going a different direction with it. i would get the optics and mounts last. like i mentioned, irons gets it functional, shoot, and go from there. do not forget spare small / brake/ wear parts and cleaning gear.

how many lowers you have? what will you build them into?

Sounds good. I've been lurking here and elsewhere for years, and just haven't had the urge to post before this.
I've got some ammo (1600rds 55gr ball) and a few mags (14- 30rd Pmags, 3- 20rd Pmags, 5- 30rd L5's, 24- Cprod 30rd w/anti-tilt follower) that I picked up last fall, but I lost my job in January and just got a new one (heard back today and start tomorrow), and I'm a full time student. So this rifle will take shape over the next several years.

I've got three lowers, two RRA and a DoubleStar.
Planning on doing this build, an M16A4 clone, and a mid-length carbine.
For now I'm holding on to a friend's Armalite 20" A3 while he's stationed in Cali. And of course as a storage fee I get to shoot it while I've got it
Optics will probably be my last aquisition, seeing as I don't have them on any of my rifles now and am fairly used to AR irons

Thanks for the advice, and more is always welcome.
