I bought a new RRA ch a few weeks back off the EE. A guy had several as a result of a double order and didn't need them all.
Since I didn't have all my parts & pieces (still don't) I never tried it for fit until today. I had gotten my barrel from the brown truck and was laying out the stuff I do have and thought, "Hey, let's see what it looks like with the ch in." (Only like just about every other AR, probably! Ok, so I was a little excited.) So I inserted it, dropped it into the upper, through the cutouts on the inside and there it stopped. After looking it over I found the problem. On one side just above the left side stop lug, the material wasn't fully removed flush with the rest of the ch length. Left just high enough to prevent it from fully entering the ch channel. And of course, finished over. 
Is my best bet to judiciously file the proud metal until it fits, then do a touch up (if so, what to touch up park?), or bite the bullet and get another ch? I don't guess RRA will replace it since I didn't get it from them or a dealer. |
| I don't believe that portion of the handle even comes out of the upper when fully retracted, but even so, it will get scratched up with use anyway. If you file to fit, the Birchwood Casey stuff works pretty good to darken the aluminum again. It's not a paint or coating, it is an acid that stains the aluminum. |
