Hey guys I have two questions.

I have a Smith and Wesson MP15 (Optics Ready) and I am really displeased with the piccatiny gas block installed standard to the rifle. First question are to those who are more knowledgeable than I: Is there a compatible low-profile gas block for that rifle? (I went a gunsmith to install a standard FSB and he said it wouldn't work one of the holes was in the wrong spot).

I have since decided against the standard front sight base in favor of installing a low-profile gas block and running a rail system over it. For that rifle, what length of rails would I need to put on it? Is making the rifle with a free-float barrel impossible without gunsmithing? What are my options?

Thanks,

MTS

PS. Budget is a concern as well. Affordable prices and quality workmanship is what I'm looking for.

Yes, there are many low profile gas blocks that would work. My favorite is the Vltor.

Why does your current gas block disappoint you? It's pinned, which is the best attachment method. It's got a rail, so you can put a front sight there...

Y/M makes an aluminum low profile gas block for about $30.  A mid length or spectre length handguard will cover most low profile gas blocks on carbine length gas systems (what you probably have on your rifle.)
