I recently purchased a no-name forged charging handle with tactical latch from PK Firearms and installed it in my upper.  After a few test cycles of it and dry firing, it has torn the aluminum off the end/tip of the handle where it engages the bolt assembly.  Apparently it started binding up for some reason and now unless you really want to rip on it to pull the bolt back it won't budge.  I can take off the upper and pull it back but only after holding down the front of the bolt assembly with my finger to keep whats left of the handle tip engaged with the bolt handle  to keep it from binding.  It moves smoothly this way.   Anyone else have this problem with this handle or any other?  Suggestion on what I should replace it with?

Let us know what PK says when you tell them.

Something that has a company name when you replace it. Bushmaster, RRA, even Olympic would do.  I buy most items like that from Brownell's or Midway USA. they list the Mfg.
Good Luck, PK should replace it but it'll be the same thing..

You sure it was forged?  Much of the cheap/no name charging handles I've seen that come with a 'tac latch' don't seem to be forged.

No actually.  It said it was forged, but I don't believe it is.  It didn't seem very "tough" to me.  Never seen a charging handle do that.  It just ripped the tip off the end where it engages the bolt carrier.

Thanks

That's strange that they don't list a Mfg name, they used to sell CMT charging handles, but i have one and it holds up quite well. you might just try and get a refund and go get a CH from somewhere else. Bravo has BCM charging handles in stock, they're gtg.

Not to take this thread sideways but I've seen at least 4 similar instances on charging handles purchased from M&A. The product is listed only as mil-spec. No brand names used in product description. My friend picked up 20 of these from them about 4 months ago. I picked one up from him and it did the same thing as the OP's. He gave me another one and had the 1st one replaced. My second one didn't tear the head off but began to bow towards the front of the CH. He had two others do the same thing. M&A has been great to take these CH's back and offer refund or replacement but I'm relatively sure they got a batch of less than stellar charging handles.

Sounds like it died as soon as you got it.
I would expect the vendor to make that right.

Anybody have an opinion on the quality of the handle sold by SOG armory?

I stumbled across a really good deal on one of these at the gun show this weekend ($35)

The SOG handle is what I used to replace my defective CH. It has been great to date. It feels much more rigid when twisting it end to end.

I haven't had a chance to use it with live fire, but if weight is any indication, it should be at least twice as strong as an ordinary handle.
