I am torn between 3 different grips.  One is the Hogue, one the the Ergo, an the last is the MIAD.  This will be for a M4 clone.  I love the Hogues and have them on my Varminter and AP4, but I wonder about the other two.  Any suggestions?

Also, which grip for a precision benchgun?  I was thinking something will a palm shelf.

MIAD, Ergo and Hogue are on my builds. All are excellent, it just come to preference.  For me out of all the three, I like the MIAD the best.

I took a chance on the Ergo and have decided i'm going to put them on all of my builds.

I had Ergo, but punted it for a MIAD

If you like a rubbery feel, go Hogue. If not the MIAD is good.

I prefer the MIAD or MOE, mostly because the backstrap makes for a better fit for larger hands.

just put the MIAD on my first build.  I don't have any practical experience with it in action but I like the adjustability to your hand size.  thats like 1.5 cents from an over zealous noob

+1 for MAID. I love the way it fits, and it looks good, too!

You might want to check the orientation of that front BUIS.

As far as grips, I prefer the CAA UPG16:

I like it that way,  longer sight radius.

Buy all three. Handle them, try them out, and sell the ones you don't like on the EE for ~90% as very lightly used/like new. Consider the 10 or 20 bucks you lose a fair price to pay to find out what works best for you. It's a one time cost, and imo, very worthwhile if you truly want what is best for yourself.

I just use the same grips as my "normal" guns on my "precision" builds. Most grips with a palm shelf are not anywhere near ambi friendly, and I like to practice with all my weapons offhand whenever I get the tickle.

Does that extra half inch make you that much more accurate?  I'd like to learn from you if it does.  I'm not good enough to notice a difference in a 1/2 inch longer sight radius.

I'll mount my BUIS how ever I please.

Why don't you nip at someone else's heels,  I don't have time for your nonsense.

I like Hogues over everything I've tried, and I've tried everything but MOEs and MIADs (Sierra, CAA G27 and UPG16, Ergo, etc.).  I like the non-slip rubber feeling of Hogues, and the finger grooves fit my hands perfectly.

I was SOOOO excited when Hogue came out with AK47 grips (see thread by "powers" in the EE AK section).  Installed one on each of my Romanian WASR/AKs, and it was a HUGE improvement.

MIAD gets my vote.  Hogue then ergo in that order after that.

Of those I have tried so far I prefer the Tango Down grips.

I've answered this question the same way in a number of threads recently. If you're tired of reading this same old thing, I'm sorry. I've been a huge Hogue fan for many years, it's a great grip particularly for a small hand. I much prefer the softer rubber feel as opposed to the hard plastic. In the past year I decided to try an ERGO (SureGrip Tactical Deluxe), actually I wanted a tan grip and Hogue's tan grip was marbled and I didn't like its look. I've also tried both of the Magpul grips (MOE and MIAD) as well as a TangoDown. The MIAD is very adaptable but still isn't the rubber feel that I like. As of 2 weeks ago, I've sold or traded my last Hogue. I'm an ERGO fan at this point. I very much like the way this grip repostitions my hand back. This allows the pad of my index finger to naturally rest on the trigger. The Hogue's natural postition for me put my index finger in to the first knuckle. This was the selling point for me. Initially I thought the ERGO looked to large. I have a medium sized hand and the size is no issue what so ever. The best advice in this thread is to see if you can't try a few of these before purchasing. Once you feel it you'll know which is right for you.

I have very large hands (like XL gloves barely fit me).  The Hogue fits me perfectly.  The above that it is great for small hands just shows its versatility, I guess?

Worst grip ever = Ergo "tactical deluxe" Suregrip I tried.  It felt like a normal skinny Ergo suregrip swallowed a golf ball, with that huge palm swell on each side.  It actually made my hand cramp, and I sent it back for a refund.  Close runner up would be the normal Ergo ambi grip (rigid - non Suregrip) - feels like trying to hold a trout by the tail, it's so skinny.

So, one person loves it, and another hates it.  Like a guy said above - try as many as you can before you buy, or buy and send the ones you don't like to the dust bin or to the EE.

Well, I ordered another Hogue.  I love the other two that I have, so I figured I can't go wrong.  Down the road when I have more money (we just had a baby a couple of weeks ago), I will purchase the Ergo and MIAD and compare all three to see which one I like best.

Thanks for the help guys!!!

PS...I will post pics once completed.

Everyone seems to have skimmed right over the part in red.

If you're intent on making an M4 clone stick to the standard A2 grip.

Apparently the OP did also. He's considering 3 that don't make the cut and bought a Hogue.

For a carbine, I like the ergo rubber grip, or the tango down standard one. I dont care for the way the hogue feels. For long guns, we use the ergo model with the palm shelf on the SR25, SPR, and M110. I  also have them on my own R25 and SPR . I like them a lot.

Sorry.  I guess I should have worded it differently.  This will by my M4 "style" build, not clone.  My bad...
