Ok so I have a lower reciever built minus a stock, but thats where I am torn. Part of me wants to build an M4 style AR but at the same time id like to build an M16 style to resemble the one I had in Iraq (obviously not build it to an exact match). I dont have a stock and so Im not sure if I should get a collapsable stock and build a 16" upper and then a 20" upper and swap them as I feel like shooting each. My best friend says I should do that, get a car stock and build the two uppers then later word on another lower. Anyone have a suggestion that could help me out? My next option is to flip a coin and see what happens.

if it was me, I would get a telescoping stock and get a 16" upper. then go out & buy another lower & upper 20".

that way you will have 1 for each hand.

welcome home. and thanks

Build both. You don't know it yet but you already have BRD.

You can build both uppers, but you can generally build a good lower for less than half what even a mediocre upper costs.  If it were me, I'd just shell out another $250-300 and build two lowers to go with your two uppers.

Build the one for the type of shooting you plan on doing most.  Later on you can throw pic rails all over a broomstick and dress it up for show. oohrah -Mike

Longhorn, ill be honest and say I have no idea what you mean by BRD, please enlighten me. OU, since you mentioned making a lower on the cheap I should mention that my lower is from Essential Arms, cheapest I've seen, $100 for a good lower. My LPK is from Rock River. Without shiping I spent a healthy $175 so far. Tack on shipping, I have spent about the same as a "name brand" stripped lower or preassembled lower would cost. Not to shabby in my book since I got them while AR parts were super scarce after November. Lol

BRD = Black Rifle Disease
While not fatal to the carrier, Black Rifle Disease causes serious issues with any wallets and/or credit cards which might be nearby.  Strangely however BRD affects each differently.  Wallets tend to suffer severe weight loss while Credit Cards tend to suffer massive increases.

As for the lower cost comments, the point being made was that compared to the upper cost, the lower is still very cheap.  You were talking about two uppers anyway so his point was spend the $250 to put together another lower.  $190 or so for lower and parts kit and grab an A2 stock out of the equipment exchange.  < 250 you should have a complete A2 stocked lower.

Another option,

You are going to end up with both types sooner or later.

So just keep an eye on the Equipment Exchange here and buy which ever one you find first cheapest.

Ok so I got a 6-pos stock. Its not the actuall stock I want but it came with the buffer tube. Ill probably put the stock itself on the EE page so stand by for that soon. Thanks for the help folk.

the road from start to finish is curvy indeed. some of my builds have been derailed or deflected by a chance comment or a "steal" on a part. wait till you get it done, then decide to undo it!

Ok so I have posted my TAPCO stock on the new EE, so if you want it go for it. Its just the stock, not the buffer tube.

Thanks, Doc. Is this covered under my PPO?
I'm BRAND NEW to the "black gun" thing. I swear I'm gonna kill my buddies that got me into this! It's not like I have enough problems, already... golf, fishing, etc...

Get used to my username, folks. I'll be that eternal 4 year old that keeps asking questions. ('cause I ain't gotta clue, right now. I'm still trying to decide weather to DGI or Gas Piston or scrap the "build" and just go buy a SIG 556!)

AAAAHHHHHHH!!

Build one of each.

One of each? Hell build 1 of each in OD, UDE, Black and Tan!!!  Then go build a Recce, a Dissy, an AR Pistol, a SBR and a Retro!  Hell throw on a few suppressors and then tell me you can't decide which to shoot.  Your wife will complain to her friends about how every time you say "lets go to the range" it takes you 30 minutes to decide which rifles to bring because you damn well know you can't carry them all in your truck with ammo and gear!!

BRD is fun, until your house forecloses your credit goes to hell and your broke to the point where your living with your 98 year old MOM!  But let's not stop there, you've got a full time job 5 days a week and two part time jobs on the weekend but you still can't afford to sell those precious EBRs and YOU KNOW YOU ARE SICK!!!!.... BRDs a B****.

Welcome to the forums!

PS. I'm just scaring the noobs!  None of this will happen, as long as you promise to send your rifles to me for extensive testing!
