How did you go about ensuring that everything is centered so you don't shoot it off?

A good machinist should have no issues with that.  Checking it out on a surface plate will ensure everything is centered (both can and barrel threads).

What is the I.D. of the can?

Thanks!

Why?

I know I don't like the extra length my REAL can adds to my weapon.

He didn't add any length to it.  Actually took some off by removing the flash hider.  Notice that it is threaded on at the front of the "can"

Really Cool Idea..... I've made a Few Fake Cans but not that extravigant. Nice and the Alumihyde II should look Great. Just make sure you let it Cure Good before you touch or assemble it.

You'll want to blast it a bit before you put on the Alumahyde II to help it adhere a bit better.

I think I'm going to do something similar but I'll be sending it in to get powdercoated I think.

just be carefull with powder coating. its alot thicker than most coatings. you dont want it to mess with your clearances.

+1 I love the reaction of fellow shooters when I take out my 16" ST-22 w/ fake can (extended type)... especially in CA... it's priceless

Also just wanted to say nice job!! Did you end up blasting it before spraying?

nice.

I got my tube turned down to 1.75" yesterday.  I'm going to make a gas block cover so mine will be similar but in 3 pieces.  Since I won't be extending into the free float tube I wanted something to keep it centered
