I hope I have this in the right forum, thank you.  I just finished my first build and am having a problem with only being able to fire one round at a time.

Here is my build:

Rock River stripped lower
MA lower parts kit.
Rock River collapasible 6 position stock
MA complete upper built by MA
Magpul 30 round magazine.
Brownells 20 round magazine
Remington 55 Gr FMJ

I can only fire one round at a time.  The second round is picked up (buy both magazines) but the rifle appears to be in safety.
I can load with the charging handle or by the bolt held open and released and it will pick up the round and fire it but only one at a time.  When there is only one round in the magazine and the rifle is fired it will hold the bolt open. It was suggested to check the gas rings on the bolt and make sure the openings are 90 degrees apart and that appeared to be ok. So any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you  1943

What do you mean that it appears to be in safety?

I cannot pull the trigger as though the safety is on.  I have to manually eject the loaded second round as the gun will not fire it.  Thanks  1943

You might want to move this to the troubleshooting section.
Are you positive that everything is assembled correctly?

sounds like you're short stroking.  i had a dissipator build with the same problem, and it was because of not getting enough gas to recock the hammer.  i would say that its possible that a few things are causing it:

your ammo is too lightly loaded (unlikely)
your stock spring and buffer over dampen the bolt (also unlikely)
your gas port is either misaligned with the gas block or is too small for the barrel length (my guess)

check it all out again.  what ive had to do on a couple builds was sit there and fine tune the position of the gas block's gas hole to the barrel.  MA parts usually does a really good job with everything, but anyone can make a mistake or install a slightly out of spec part.  check the gas block.

Have you done a function check on the fire control group?
It almost sounds like the disconnector is not releasing, or something is up with the trigger group.
Disconnector spring upside down? wide side down is the right way. check that.
Do a function check with.

edit:when it fails to fire the second round open the rifle and is the hammer cocked or not?

Thanks so much for all the advice.  Tomorrow I will have some dummy rounds and will load them as the second round in the magazine and can then check about the hammer without a live round in the chamber.  I will then go thru the steps you people have given me.  Thanks for all the help  1943

Yes if this needs to be moved by all means somebody do it or if I can just let me know how.  Thanks

Thanks Elvis and all the posters that have offered help.  I will try some of the suggestions after work today and see what happens.

Cheers   1943

I have nothing to help your current problem, but gas ring alignment is not nor will it ever be a problem.
They will move around inside the bolt carrier group on thier own, so it doesn't matter

Check to see if the little hole in the end of the buffer tube is plugged up.

SEMI
Place the selector on SEMI. Pull the trigger and hold to the rear. The hammer should fall. Continue to hold the trigger to the rear, pull the charging handle to the rear, and release it, Release the trigger with a slow, smooth motion until the trigger is fully forward. The hammer should not fall. Pull the trigger. The hammer should fall.

Ok when I do this after pulling the charging handle to the rear with the trigger held back, when I release the charging handle and release the trigger it will "NOT GO FORWARD" unless I push it.  After a short travel I hear a click and then I can pull the trigger and the hammer will fall.  Does this make any sense??   Thanks  1943

I just put together Charles Daly lower with RRA lower part kit. The disconnector did not fit in the channel of the trigger and was jammed there. Had to open it with the Dremmel and narrow stone. Before I could not pull the trigger second time because the rear part over the disconnector spring was in the groove jammed solid. You should be able to push the disconnector down with your finger at the point where the spring is and it should bounce back. Maybe this help

OK all right I got it fixed.  There must of been a burr somewhere on the disconnector or in the notch of the hammer where the disconnector will hook when the trigger is held back.  It was not releasing the hammer.  After working it many times it started working and then I shot 5 rounds without a FTF.   Now when I pull the charging handle back with the trigger held to the rear when I let go of the trigger it will go forward on its own and it will go to a ready to fire.  I want to thank everybody for their suggestions.  Hope to be around the forum for a long time.  Peace and Cheers  1943
