Just taking a break from my attempt to remove a pinned low profile gas block. For the life of me I can see absolutely NO REASON for a barrel to be sold by itself with a gas block pinned on it... Is there a reason for doing it that I can't think of, or is it just to frustrate people?
I've heated the gas block with a hair drier, soaked the pin in WD-40 and slightly mushroomed the pin (not tapered) on one side pounding on it. One thing I haven't figured out is a good way to keep the barrel/gas block from rotating at all while striking the pin. I have it clamped but it still rocks a little when I hit it so I think I'm not getting a full strike on it. Any hints? I'm hoping re-installing it will be easier, I plan on freezing the pin and heating the gas block.... |

hit it on the other side with a bigger hammer and make sure its supported, much cheaper than 40.00. Supporting it is the problem that I'm having. I'm clamping it down but when I strike it the barrel does move. I thought about making a jig to support the barrel while striking it instead of the clamp method. I just wish Noveske wouldn't pin the freaking gas block on the barrel when they sell it... |
