No real difference, pick the one with  roll marks you like and buy one.  or buy ten.  Essential Arms is nice for the money, i have 3 myself, i also have 2 Mega, and one P.O.F. lower.  I like them all for different reasons.

Some people pick a brand, buy one, build it up, like it and that is what they stick with.

There are a few names to stay away from, and someone else will be along to add them, Olympic is one there are a few others.  (Insert cry for help here!)

Stag, Rock River Arms, Essential Arms, Mega and many others in that circle are all OK.  Pick one and get started! Your first won't be your last!  I promise!

Hesse and Vulcan are also lowers to be avoided.

There is very little long term love for any of the "carbon" or synthetic/plastic lowers from Professional Ordnance or Bushmaster either.

Stick with alluminum lowers that are forged. (Or high quality billet receivers, but they will probably be just outside of that price range).  You should be fine with  those.

I'm in the same market.

How does Spikes Tactical stack up against the others?

I personally like the way they look and have seen tons around here, just want to double check.

another one I would put on the good list is the superior lowers. They are priced fantastic and mine works great. Rumer is the superior lowers have issues with magpuls not falling free but mine has no problems with the new magpul mags. Drop free no issues.

Not to hi-jack your thread. What is the general opinion of S&W lowers?

Most lowers out there are made by CMT.  There is only a handful of actual manufacturers out there that supply every other company.  Most lowers, and parts in general are just rebadged.  Most "manufactures" really just assemble parts and sell them under a brand name.

Read my last post.  The brand of the lower is not that important.  There are a few to stay away from but most are pretty much the same.  All it does is act as a point of attachment for parts that are important.  The LPK (lower parts kit) that you stuff in the lower is what I would be worried about along with the upper reciever group.
