Ok I have been lurking for a bit spounging knowledge from this board in order to build my first AR, and I must say the results have been excellent. Today I thought I would share back what that knowledge dump has brought forth in my hands.
http://members.cox.net/cagliostro/baby.JPG What we are looking at is Tony Custom upper Wilson Heavy Barrel 24" 1 in 8 twist Stainless steel A3 upper Forward assist Young Manufacturing Free float Rifle Handgaurd Young Manufacturing Low profile gas block with rail Charging handle Yound manufacturing large latch Double star lower Rock River arms Lower parts kit A4 Adjustable stock Command Arms saddle for stock Ospery Illimunated Scope (3-9 X 40) Harris Bipod Xtra long with swivel mount Young Manufacturing AR15 chrome Bolt and Bolt Carrier Total cost - $1112 Build time - 4 months to source all parts I am still making decisions on some parts. After shooting my build yesterday I am still deciding on the stock and grip. I also know I need to adjust the charging handle some more due to the scope limiting pull. I was able to shoot sub 1" groups at the range at 25 yards with a 100 yard sight in target. Frankly I think the gun shoots better, I just don't. Now in the spirit of giving back I do have a great idea my wife came up with I want to share, to pay back as it where. http://members.cox.net/cagliostro/door.JPG What you are looking at is a shoe holder for doors purchased at the local big lots for $9. I love it, all my mags in easy reach and not shifting through bags and boxs to find the ones I want to take the range. It is sturdy enough to hold all those mags loaded and ready to go if I wished. I know the wife came up with it to reduce my clutter, but it is really a great idea. |

sweet looking setup. how heavy is that 24" bull barrel That shoe rack would work good on the inside of a safe too, granted you couldnt hang it over top the door.I threw it on the bathroom scale and it says it weighs 12.6 pounds. so the upper porbably is 10 pounds of that. It is definatly front heavy. Since it is basically cloth you could cut off any extra rows that did not fit and just attach it in any convient way so I would say the inside of a safe door would work just fine. Quoted:
Great looking rifle...just my .02 cents, but I would pull that stock off and save it for an M4 and get a fixed stock adn throw that on there...eiother way great looking rifle...let us know how it shoots... I am not sure I am 100% happy with the current stock either. I figure I will shoot it a few more times before I decide on a stock swap out, Figure out what I want from a stock before I change anything more. I will say that the command arms saddle does make it a lot more comfortable and provides a really good cheek weld on the collapsable stock At the range It was tack driving accurate and had no problem with the three different mags I brought with me (P-mag, GI Surplus, Generic Steel) I was shooting silver bear ammo, probably not the best but what the range had and would let me shoot (range does not allow you to bring your own ammo in) |

(range does not allow you to bring your own ammo in) I would find a new range. I have never heard a range say you have to buy their ammo. I must be lucky over here in WA. We drive about 20 minutes north into the woods and just blast away. But even the indoor range over here lets you bring shoot your own ammo. |
