A normal delta ring has a slight taper to it. A flat does not. It's the same diameter all the way around. I'm inclined to think that you would want the flat delta ring for an A1 build, but perhaps someone with more experience with retro builds can chime in.

It depends on which hand guards you are going to use. Most free floats come with what is needed for that area. If you are going to use regular hand guards then just get a Delta ring "assembly" it comes with the weld spring, snap ring, and barrel nut.

Not what he's asking.  There are two styles of delta rings, flat and tapered.  The flat was the original.  Don't know when it was used 'til.  The tapered is the one currently in use on the M16A2 and M4.  You can use either one, it's personal preferrence.

The flat delta ring is correct for an A1 or clone.
