My uncle is looking to build an AR chambered for a .308 and I told him i'd look for some info for him but seem to be having trouble finding it. Are there any good parts suppliers for the .308 or good sites for information or stripped lowers? Anything would help. Do you need a .308 specific lower?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try the Variants and AR-10 forums for .308 specific info.

2 main camps Armalite and DPMS, but also RRA.
All incompatible with one another.  Not as standardized/interchangeable as the 5.56 rifles.
I chose the Armalite AR-10 platform.

Yes, you need a specific lower due to longer OAL of the cartridge.

I saw a .308 AR lower from CMMG at my local range the other day and I seem to think that it was going for about $360.

Was that a stripped lower or a complete lower? Just curious...trying to get some rough prices for my uncle.

Unfortunately it was a stripped lower.  I was curious if it was a decent price so I asked on here and all the replies I got were that it was.  If I didn't have a few other things on my list first, I probably would have gotten it.  Good luck!

Before the present madness, stripped lowers could be had for ~$165-200ish.
.308 parts have always been more expensive due to smaller market share, but the current situation has really inflated their prices.

Yeah that is a bit of a price hike! Well I will let my uncle know what to expect when it comes to prices. Thanks for your help

The lower is just the tip of the iceberg. Price everything else to complete and you are getting up there 1.5K to 2K.
