OK I am fairly new to AR's and brand new to the board, have a couple of questions. I get the impression from reading a lot lately that most parts will interchange between most models and manufactures of AR's. Is this a correct?
Now on to my specific questions. I just picked up a Bushmaster XM-15 E2S last week. It has the A1 upper receiver. I would really like to change this out to an A3 or A4 flat top. If I just purchase an upper receiver will all of my current parts swap into the new one. Also is this difficult to do yourself? I am pretty mechanically inclined, just have never worked on guns before. Thx |

assuming you have a vise and upper receiver block, removing and re-installing a barrel is a 5-10 minute job. seeing as it's a used upper, so long as you use the BCG that came with the barrel, you can swap the barrel and BCG into a new flat top upper with no issues.
there probably wouldn't be any issues with a new bolt, either, but it's better to be safe if you don't know how many rounds have gone through that tube. so, basically, I'm saying go ahead and buy a flat top upper. swap the barrel assemblies between them, and sell the A1. there's a lot of people who want to buy it from you. |
