I am planning on building an M4 type weapon with collapsable stock and am unsure which one I want. I do know the uber-popular Magpul UBR just doesn't do it for me, so while a lot of you like it I am sure, its just not my bag.
Feel free to explain your choice or add another. |

Wow, totally no love for the SOPMOD. Why is the CTR better? Are you all voting for it based on value/price point, or are you voting CTR because you have used both and find it more comfortable/solid/better made?
I was all set on the SOPMOD, but now am unsure due to this admittedly unexpected landslide opinion. Please educate me. FWIW, this will be going on a 16" LaRue stealth build. ACOG will be used. |
| I voted for the sopmod, but I'd actually go with the Vltor club foot. Less money, lighter, battery compartment and looks good too imo. I had 2 CTR's and ended up changing them both out. I like the CTR, but I'm not a magpul coolaid drinker like most arfcomers are. |

CTR & SOPMOD. Apples & Oranges. Errr...somewhat. Here is what I am after: I want something that has an LOP that is within 1/2" or so of an A2 when fully extended, I want something that will be comfy to get a good cheek-weld on, and I want something durable as hell that won't wobble. Aesthetics are also important, and I do not like the crack in the Vltor stock as it will snag at haires and in general doesn't appeal to me. Again, this is going on a Recce type weapon. Storage and weight are very secondary concerns. |

SOPMOD = $200
MOE = $50 to $100 Is there any question as to one is more prevalent than the other? It would also depend on what you are doing with the rifle. If it is a basic rifle with no light or anything that doesn't require batteries then you would be less apt to use the storage space of the SOPMOD. I went with the SOPMOD on mine and love the cheek relief it gives you. It is top quality. The EMOD is less money, but the less parts, the less the chance for issues. |

I have played with the SOPMOD quite a bit.
I have receintly assembled 4 Sabre lowers with Vltor EMOD stocks. I have had 6 or 7 standard M4 stocks, couple of Colt, 3 or 4 Bushmaster a Stag and an Armalite, IMO, they all suck. So, currently I have the 2 Colt M4s, 3 MagPul CTRs, 1 MagPul M93 and an ACE. I choose the CTR. Bill |
| I recieved my LMT SOPMOD kit today. Sadly, I do not have a rifle to install it on, but I put the stock on the tube to test for fit/function. This stock is excellent. It does everything I wanted it to do. I am very pleased with it and would heavily advise it's purchase to others. |

Personally I prefer the Vltors...not sure why they're not listed in the poll *shrug* They were not listed as I viewed them as an econo-SOPMOD. The look does not appeal to me and this thread was kinda a "What should I buy" rather than a "Survey of your stock". |

I’ll tell you what you should buy: buy the overpriced, outdated, heavier sopmod. Over-priced? Since when did price factor in this post? Outdated? I was unaware these things had an expiration date. Heavier? I want a tad of weight, if you read the OPs you would see that this is going on a weapon that is known to be slightly nose-heavy. |
| I was recently in the market for stock for my spare-no-expense shtf carbine build. I was dead set on getting a vltor emod. Obviously availablity is pretty rough right now. During my wait for one to turn up, I did a bunch of reading. I think the bigger stocks, sopmod, emod, ubr are probably better matched to midlength or riflelength setups. The evidence was really pointing towards the ctr, so I bought one. It's obvious why it's such a popular choice. A great alternative to the regular m4 stock. Very sturdy, and locks up tightly. Not always the best option is the most expensive (just usually.) |

Not always the best option is the most expensive (just usually.) I heavily considered the CTR as well. I bought the SOPMOD based on the fact that the man at LaRue tactical, who is a dealer for Magpul, when asked about CTR vs. Sopmod was quiet for a few seconds, then quietly responded. "I really like the SOPMOD." I needed a buffer, buffer tube, spring, and castle-nut ect. anyways, so I bought the kit. If the SOPMOD fails to please me at any point, I can flip it for zero-loss, buy a CTR, and put $$ in my pocket. |

LMT SOPMOD. Buy it and you'll know why. This. On mine, I've gone through and sold a VLTOR, an old CAR-type, and a CTR. Now I realize I should have gotten the SOPMOD a year ago like I was going to. All because I was trying to save some cash. A couple thoughts... 1. The VLTOR to me is just as good as the SOPMOD for a little less $$...but the stories of yanked facial hair are TRUTH. Shit hurts. 2. The CTR is a great stock at a VERY reasonable price, and my guess is that's why it's winning in the poll. The price of the SOPMOD is enough to deter some folks. IMO, the MOE isn't worth the money saved over the CTR because you might as well get a standard M4 stock; the advantage to the CTR is the lock-up feature it has, so there's very little wiggle...the MOE doesn't have this. All just my .02, of course. |
