I currently have a 16 inch carbine with a fixed carry handle.

I am building a flat top mid-length upper to go on my lower. I ordered a F marked front sight tower to put on this upper, the only problem is the front sight post, spring and detent, I don't have them yet and I really want to put this new upper together ASAP because this will be my go to gun. Can I use these parts off the regular front sight tower without causing any issues?

Yes the parts in the A2 FSB will work.

How are you installing the F marked? Is it drilled or  undrilled? You know that FSB's are drilled with a barrel and are mated for life, correct? That is, a FSB off one barrel has a 99.9% chance that the pin holes will not work with a different barrel. Also, some manufactures use 2/0 taper pins and some use straight pins.

The reason the F marked FSB is used is so the Army, Navy, AF, and who ever else uses the M4 doesn't have to stock 2 separate P/Ns for a few million guns. They both use the same front sight pin, detent and spring, you can use your same FSB you have on the gun already and buy a front sight pin that will be the correct height (taller if I remember correctly) This will save you from having to have your barrel re-drilled to match the new FSB.

The sight tower and barrel are not drilled yet... so I shouldent have any problems

Since I do not have the sight post spring I will take them off my carbine for now. Thanks.

That's good. How do you plan on aligning and driling it?

That will be taken care of by a smith . Im just making sure I have all the right stuff before I go down to him, don't wanna waste any time showing up with the wrong parts.

Make sure he knows what he's doing. I have a fixture made to do this job.
