I have built numerous rifles and I gotta tell ya timing the muzzle devices so that they line up correctly seems to be the most consuming of all steps involved in my opinion. Im currently workin on installing the FSC556 on my 16" and I've split more peel washers and crush washers then I would want.
Anyone have an easier way to do this? |
| I put a FSC556 on my LaRue Stealth. It took a peel washer plus a couple of extra peels to make it time right. The comp would bottom out on the threads before it pressed against the washer. It took me the better part of an hour until I figured out what the problem was. |
| When using crush washers I tighten the FH down untill it crushes the washer a little and then I back it off. I then crush the washer a little more and repeat the crushing and backing off until I get everything timed perfectly. Be carefull when nearing the proper timming because if you turn the FH past the sweet spot you just ruined the crushwasher. |
| I screw flash hider as far as it will go then back of till aligned perfectly then measure gap with feeler gages. Allow some (about 0.005) in other words add 5 thou for reasonalable crush I make the correct size from a mild steel bar I have already bored and turned to right diameter, just part off thickness needed and parkerize. For none machinist you just use the right thickness or combo of crush washers. Takes about 10 ft lb torque to tighten and don't go past are you have to start over. |

I musta got lucky with mine. a little bit of torque and it lined right up. I've been lucky too. The two that I've installed that need timed are the FSC 556 and A2. The FSC timed perfect with no washer on a Noveske Afghan 14.5". The A2 lined up with a crush washer first or second shot. |
