Hello,
Like many of us who have recently posted, I am very much a noobie when it comes to building/assembling and AR.  I am in the process of getting parts ordered and I am wondering what determines if you need a milspec vs a commercial buttstock?  Is it the upper assembly, whatever hardware you have, the buffer, lower receiver, or something else?  I am really new at this so forgive the simplicity of the question.  Couldn't find the answer in some rudimentary searching.

Thanks,
NGN

Milspec and commercial buttstock buffer tubes are slightly different diameters, and whatever buttstock you use needs to be the correct diameter for the buffer tube you'd be using.

There are more varieties of collapsible stock available for milspec tubes, and some argue that the milspec tube is a bit stouter. But either one will work with any standard lower and you're unlikely to ever suffer in use from using one or the other.

Ok, so if I buy a stock with hardware and buffer tube that is all "milspec" I should be GTG?

Thanks

Yes, but just make sure you stake the buffer tube castle nut then you're GTG.
