This is my attempt to built an AR & i need advice and guidance.
This is what I'm contemplating, what do you guys think? Well, your on the right track but I really don't see a reason to have that trigger matched with that barrel and handguard setup. Before you purchase anything you have to think about what you want to do with it. If your going for precision shooting/long range/hunting than you might want to change your barrel choice. If your leaning more towards just plinking or home defense then I don't see a real reason to spend the money on a trigger to start off with. I would just get the lower parts kit and see how well you like that trigger first. You can spend the money on something else like a rail upgrade, optics, forward grip, or many other accessories. The reason I say this is because I'm not sure how accurate the DTI lightweight barrel is (correct me if I'm wrong), If your looking for a precision rifle than you might want to look into WOA barrels they are pretty affordable and are a very accurate barrel. Also I would get the Mid-length gas system if possible, and I would see if you can get a low profile gas block with a longer rail system. It's just my opinion but I don't see much practicality out of a railed gas block, yeah you can mount a flip up sight on it but you can do that on a handguard also.
hope this helps |

also consider that del-ton has a long wait time at the moment... I placed an order with them in december and dont expect it for another couple months.
Del ton is cheap (money-wise), but you'll wait for it. If you stalk some of the better retailer websites who keep their site current with on-hand stock, you can get a build much quicker (though probably more expensive). I did this and kept my del-ton order.. so now I have my inexpensive rifle build waiting and my "right now" build that cost me about twice as much but is made from premium products. It's an investment though... if I decide later that I don't need two rifles I can always sell one (and given the state of things, make a profit). |

Hey I read your post and I too have built rifles with D-T. Worth the wait! However I do wonder about the choice of a gas block vs.a standard A-2 front sight on the barrel you have chosen. Also the RRA trigger may be wasted money on this weapon. Spend the extra money on a flip up rear sight, and you may want to consider having the trigger worked by Bill Springfield for $40. I have not used him but every time his name comes up on the boards all I hear are positive comments. I think it is billspringfield .com. One more comment about the Phantom Flash hider and I speak from experience here. I have the A-2 FH and my son has the Phantom. His looks better but at night I like mine better. Also the A-2 does not kick up dirt from the prone like the Phantom. Just my opinion. |
