I FINALLY got the front sight post final taper pin out today (grrrrrrrrrrr ) and got to mock up my new rifle (bottom in pic). A cheap LPK will wrap this one up...and then some nice glass for yardage shots.
I put my SBR above it for a size comparison.
My sole objective was to build a longer distance, rifle length AR as cheap as possible at today's prices.
For a FYI, here are costs to date. I've been slowly snatching up cheap parts over the last 6 months or so.
Lower RCVR (MEGA) = $135
Upper Flattop Receiver (MEGA) = $100
Rear A2 BUIS = $25
20" Lightweight Colt barrel = free from a co-worker's husband (:D )
Bolt Carrier Group = $140
A2 Stock (complete) = $65
YHM Hanguard = $130
FL Sales tax on new stuff = $20
Total = $615
I still need a LPK and I'm just holding out for something less than $80-90. The Yankee Hill handguard was my only splurge.
The barrel was set up for the old-skool triangular profiled handguards (Vietnam era style) so I could have got those for $15-20 and still kept the entire build w/LPK under $600. Anyway, just a FYI for those in the process of building or contemplating. The free barrel saved me $200 or so.
