I am looking to build a lefty AR and was looking at the South Paw uppers on DPMS. My question is what parts do I need that are different from a standard build? I know I'll need a left eject bolt (exactly how is the bolt modified to do this, can a standard bolt be easily modified for left eject?), but will this work with a standard bolt carrier? I have been looking all over the web and can't really come up with any concrete info on what all is needed for a lefty build. Thanks,

Thanks, Anthony The DPMS uppers use a right hand carrier, but the bolt is modified to only fit for LH ejection. The bolt is the same as a RH bolt except the opening for the cam pin is on the opposite side. I have modified a RH bolt with a Dremel to allow its use, however it is possible to put in in 180 degrees out in either a LH or RH upper after the modification. |
| How hard is that modification to do? I am pretty handy but have never done any major work to a gun. I figured I could put an AR together from parts easily enough though. I have shot plenty of right hand ejects left handed without any problem but I really want a true lefty gun. Are the only left eject uppers Stag and DPMS? |
