Grrrr! Don't you hate when things don't go right? Especially when its not your fault?
So, I'm building my rifle kit tonight...working on the lower receiver (made by Sabre Defense). I had a tough time installing the safety selector switch. For some reason, it was hitting the trigger assembly while I tried to slide it into the receiver. Well, I finally get it over the trigger assembly and start to work on the selector detent pin and springs. I install them, and it doesn't work. What I mean is that the switch is still affected by gravity and will move around easily. Evidently the detent pin is not supporting it. After over half an hour of trying to get it, I decide that I must remove the selector switch and run some tests where I can visually see what's going on. It took me another 15 minutes to remove the bloody thing (scratching up the receiver). Fortunately, I have a 2nd lower receiver (made by DPMS) so I decide to compare the location of the detent pin on both the receivers. There is an obvious difference. See the pictures below. Its too late...I'm too tired from work today to redo everything onto the other lower receiver...and I now have a lower receiver that cannot take the selector detent pin and work. What would you do? The top picture is the lower that gave me problems. Compare the depth of the detent pin in the picture below it. http://www.philsjeep.com/files/MiscPics/SabreDefense.jpg http://www.philsjeep.com/files/MiscPics/DPMS.jpg |

Take a drill and countersink the hole for the selector detent pin a little further. I believe it is a 5/32" drill bit, but I can find out for sure later. go slow and check the fit of the detent frequently until it pretty much matches the other lower.
Or you oculd call up the manufacturer and tell them it is out of spec in that area and see if they'll replace it for you. |

It does take a 5/32 bit to deepen the shoulder area for the selector detent.
does the setent itself move freely up and down when the safety is not installed?, if not there might be a burr in the hole itself. The suggestion above to test it all out with all components installed is a good idea, spring pressures might cure the problem. If not then check each componet of the safety by itself to see if there is any hangup. If ran into this problem on a 80% lower I just did, there was a burr in the 1/8 hole for the pointed section of the detent. |

I recently had a trigger that was too tall at tail end and enterfeered with safety, I had to grind a small amount off of top of trigger rear in disconnector area. but your problem is clearly detent problem. Same exact problem here! (I posted about it about a month or so ago) I happened to have a second, different LPK lying around (RRA), and when I installed it into the LR, it worked fine with none of the same clearance problems with the rear of the trigger piece and the safety selector. The only conclusion I could reach was that the trigger piece and/or safety selector from the first LPK was not in spec. |

Ummm... Your trigger assembly goes in AFTER the selector is in place... The selector goes in first, then the pin and spring, then the pistol grip to hold everything in place, then the FCG.
Remove your pistol grip. Remove the pin and spring from the selector lever area. Remove the trigger group. Put the selector in. Replace the pin and spring, then your pistol grip. Now put your trigger group in. Should work just fine. The selector should only be removed AFTER the pistol grip is taken off, and the spring and pin are removed, and the FCG is removed. |

No, actually it doesn't. Maybe you've done it that way and it works fine, but its not what is universally taught, and its not his hangup here. Just be sure you turn that drill bit by HAND - not a drill. But I think you already know that :) Good luck. |

Some brand lowers will not let the trigger be installed after the selector.
I would make sure the detent was the correct length also before altering the lower. also I would check the depth of the grip hole and make sure the spring was above the grip the correct amount. Check the detent to make sure it is the correct diameters or try swapping it. |

I wish I had a second lower kit, but I don't. So, I only have the one detent to use.
I had sent an email to the company. They immediately offered to check the specs on it. I just have to call them and get an RMA number. Thats probably what I will do within the next day or two. I don't trust myself with drilling it. I'd rather send it to them, and if it is correctly to spec, then I will get it back. And, if its not to spec...they shall fix it. Once all is complete, I'll post here. Thanks everyone! |
