with my upper on order. I turn towards the less expensive parts of my build and I have narrowed down the stock to two options...UBR or SOPMOD. Does one have an edge over? the other? Far as I can tell people around these parts seem to put them about equal.

SOPMOD hands down!

I love the SOPMOD on the LMT lower. However, both are HEAVY and I actually prefer a fixed stock. My favorite stock is an Ace Skeleton stock - they come in regular and "shorty" lengths. I use a shorty (using a CAR extension tube) on my flat top Bushy carbine - it is much handier than the LMT MRT CQB with the SOPMOD. Also costs a lot less than the SOPMOD if cost is an issue.

cost really isn't an issue as at the moment i have a steady flow of income that if i ration well allows me to add on to my build approximately every month so really it comes down to which of the two have an edge design wise. It seems to me that perhaps the UBR has less cheek weld than the LMT?

Have you considered the Vltor Emod stock?  I decided on one after wanting to purchase a SOPMOD.
