How does everyone install the roll pins (trigger gaurd/bolt catch) without maring the finish of the roll pin head and/or the receiver finish near the entrance hole?

Seems like whenever I get mine in with a roll pin punch, the roll pin head itself is showing silver color.  Also small amount of receiver finish flakes off by pin hole.  Looks bad to me, any ideas?

Does the factory press these pins in?

Use a brass punch?
Put a little CLP on the pin to help it slide?

That is what I do, kroil on the pin and use a roll pin punch.  Then touch up with a black felt tip if necessary.

This,

or you can tape up some channel locks and squeeze it on in.

I have used Adjustable plyers (Channel Locks) to install them and have never had a problem.  If you wrap the jaws good with electrical tape, you'll never mar the receiver and once the pin is almost all the way in, use a punch to finish it off.

The only time I've ever left a mark was when I was using only a punch and a mallet.

I use a vice grips with the jaws taped and I also put some tape around the area where the roll pin is going to be pressed in. I have done this to 3 lowers and I have not scratched one yet.

I use modified vice grips with the jaws ground off to a flat surface.  Also use tape.

Never have a problem using then
