| What is the reasoning behind a 16" Bushy "Dissipator" barrel? What gas tube does this use. |
|
The concept is fairly simple in the dissipator as I understand it. It allows the use of a full rifle length iron sight radius on a more compact rifle. I don't understand why its called a dissipator exactly, since I believe the handguards hold some heat in rather than aid in cooling, but I could be wrong on that.
The bushmaster Dissipator uses a Carbine length gas system with a cut down gas block hidden under the handguards. There are others that use rifle length gas systems and presumably middy's as well, but with the rifle at least you will usually have to open up the gas port for reliable function. |

What is the reasoning behind a 16" Bushy "Dissipator" barrel? What gas tube does this use. The Dissipator is a 16" rifle with full rifle length sights. It gives folks whose arms are getting too short (presbyopia) a full rifle length sight on a 'handier' rifle. Checking the Bushmaster website and looking at the barrel alone, the Dissipator uses a carbine gas tube. |

using my superior logic, it is called a dissipator because the heat created by the carbine system (less time for gas to cool) the longer handguards with the heat shields dissipate the heat better. oh and a longer sight radius. ![]() Do the handguards really radiate heat faster than exposed barrels? Isn't the point of the heat sheilds to protect your hands from the heat trapped inside the handguards and the reason for the holes is to let the heat out? I remember being told that the longer handguards allowed the barrel to cool faster, but for some reason theres a nagging bit in my brain that says its not right. Anyone with a dissipator on an M16 lower that can comment on the heat? |

What is the reasoning behind a 16" Bushy "Dissipator" barrel? What gas tube does this use. * Compact, 16" barreled carbine can be easier to store & handle * Full-length sight-radius can be more accurate It uses a carbine-length gas tube connected to a low-profile gas block under the hand guards. ... I don't understand why this question comes up almost every week... |
