ok, so I am taking the plunge. I have a plan, and I'm in the process of ordering the parts. can you guys take a look at my list and let me know if I'm forgetting something?

stripped lower (on order)

A1 upper w/o barrel (on order. forward assist, rear sight, and ejection port cover installed)

Lower parts kit

CAR stock. with buffer tube, spring and buffer, right?

bolt carrier group. (does this include the bolt?)

charging handle assy.

A1 pistol grip (is the screw usually included with the LPK?)

mid-length light profile barrel assembly. ( would that usually come with the hardware to install handguards?)

mid-length handguards (see above question)

flash hider. either A1 or A2. I notice no one talks about peel or crush washers when they mention A1 flashhiders. are they not needed? what the heck is timing, anyway?

are there any parts I'm missing?

first of all the standard A2 plastic grip should come with your LPK, most do, if not all of them.

don't forget the gas tube... If your bbl has a built in FSB and still has the rings to run plastic HG then do that. If you need the parts then buy them from del-ton.com. Matter of fact go to del-ton.com right now and look at the 2 different diagrams showing the breakdown of the upper and lower that way you can see for yourself what you need. Look at the contents of your LPK and start crossing parts off the list. I rememeber the confusion when I 1st got BRD. There really is not alot to them once you understand the different variables like gas blocks and HG combinations.

ok. do all pistol grips use the same screw? I'll likely stick with the A2 grip for a while. after all, the only difference so far as I know is the little nub between your middle and ring figures, right?

I'll just add, the "gas block" unless you buy the barrel with it already installed on there.  If it doesn't have the gas block installed already, and you buy this seperately, you need to check if the gas block purchased comes with the gas block roll pin.  Even if the gas block is already installed on the barrel, check to see if the roll pin comes with it.  You don't want to finish your build and be held up by a $.30 part.  1 or 2 of the board sponsors sell this part by itself.  The one I bought it from (can't remember which one though) didn't charge me for shipping.

If you buy the Bolt Carrier Group, it will come with the bolt.  It is the complete setup.

As for the stock, if you're buying it in a kit, it will have everything needed, otherwise you need to buy the "castle nut" as well and you'll probably want the castle nut wrench (can be purchased for like $6).  You can tighten it with a screw driver and hammer, atleast this is what some people say they have done...

ETA: You're probably going to want to buy the castle nut wrench either way.

Certain pistol grips when purchased will come with their own screw.  But as far as I know, you should still be able to use the same screw that came with the LPK.  I've got the MagPul MIAD grip and I didn't use the screw it came with (I had a problem with it). I used the one that came with my LPK.

also make sure you bbl include a bbl nut. seriously go to del-ton.com and look at the 2 diagrams in their upper and lower parts sections. that's where I learned it all in about 20 minutes I knew exactly what I needed and learned alot in the process.
