i ahve built a lower before but this one is giving me trouble. the roll pin for the bolt catch keeps wanting to go in at a slight angle. and when i put the bolt catch in, i can't get the pin to go through it. anyone have any secret ways to do it? im using a regular hammer, maybe a different type?

I get the pin started with the catch in but not aligned.  Then I use a cheap automatic center punch with a modified tip to finish driving the pin while the catch is aligned with a SILGHTLY smaller diameter pin from the front.  Roll pins have a slight taper, if not, turning them in a Dremel tool against a honing stone will put a nice bevel on the front end.

The automatic center punch replaces the punch and hammer.  I just ground the tip to a very broad point, it still works as a center punch.

You really should use the proper punch designed to put in this roll pin

crimp one end of the roll pin

use a bit of tw25

use an allen key as a capture pin

I have done it with and without the proper tools, it can be done eather way, but much easier with proper punch...
