Anyone know what the wait time on Model 1 Uppers currently is?
11/17/2008 3:37:15 PM EDT
[#1]
I ordered a 7.5 pistol upper on November 5.
I need to contact them to find out what the ETA is.

I'm sure like everyone else they are buried!

One of the girls there told my friend that they have plenty of parts. Its that they are almost month behind in assembling in order to keep up with all the orders. Some things may take a month or two. He wanted an upper so it may take longer than buying small parts.

Thanks folks,

My order date was Nov 5 as well... I'll be interested in knowing what you find out. I did figure about a month or more for fully assembled uppers. Damned panic buyers! :-)

Maybe, I was one of the first few panic buyers they had.

ok well on the 13th of Nov. I called concerning my friends order, well at that time the lady told me they were working on October 30th orders and that it was roughly taking 1 to 2 days to complete orders for each day based on the number of orders.      So basically they have a stack for each day and so prior to the election they had 1 to 1.5 weeks of work before starting on Nov 4th orders.    Now she said the night of the 4th and after election day the work load just exploded, so it could take them up to 5 days to do each day of orders.   So  going by her explination:
today is the 17th so they are probably working on the 31st orders or maybe even the 1st of nov. orders.

so lets just say 5 days for every nov. day that would put 5th or 6th day of Nov. orders out around christmas. I would figure saturdays are work days in situations like this.

I honestly can't see how 12 to 14 weeks is possible unless their running out of parts.  or meandog and I talked to a different person then who you talked to Policeman.  Yeah I can see if your like ordered last week but come on.

another thing they said was that about 2 weeks before election things starting picking up too.

Damn! I'm glad I did my panic buying spree in the summer when their wait time was about 5 days.

I was told that for orders placed back on Nov 4 or 5 the wait is about 6 weeks but if you ordered today it would be about 12-14 weeks.

No kidding me to...LOL...I have a buddy who took my advise and bought him a lower reciever back in May,I told him he'd better get him an order placed for his kit and he put it off until this past Monday. Model 1 Sales told him on the phone today that there is a 12-14 week wait.

12-14 weeks.  wow.  I didn't really place my order in a panic, just have bad timing.    I guess they've taken their phones off the hook? just a busy signal 24 hrs. a day for the last few days now.

Will they ship faster if someone asks them to ship it unassembled?

This is a quote from the e-mail they just sent me:

"Due to the high amount of orders we have received in such a short time period, we will be shipping your order out in 14 weeks. Once we ship out the order we will email you with a tracking number.

Thank you

I order two different uppers prior to the election and got each of them in about 10 days including the shipping time.  If you get one in 3 weeks I would say you're doing good.

i ordered two uppers from del-ton yesterday.  12 to 16 weeks there to.  i have 3 complete rifles but im still sitting on three complete lowers.  luckily del-ton isnt price gouging so it makes the wait a little easier.

Is it just me or does anyone else have the feeling that Model 1 and other parts kit companies are stating a longer then actual delivery time in order to avoid painting themselves in a corner in the event of a shortage?  I have 7 kits on order that I was told would be 9-12 weeks, but I'm convinced they'll be showing up before then.  Maybe I'm just naive.

No they are NOT crap. The only thing I would try and avoid is whatever BCA they use. Just make sure to steak it properly and hope the bolt doesnt snap at the cam pin hole. That seems to be the big problem is bolt breaking at the cam pin hole. The carrier Im sure is fine, but it might be worth it to find a replacement bolt.

I have been building rifles with model 1 kits since 2003 and have had a great deal of success with them.  It's likely that I haven't shot any of them enough to break them but I've put several hundred rounds per trip through whatever rifle I have out that trip and I've never had a FTE, mechanical breakage, or lack of accuracy that couldn't be explained by my own lack of marksmanship ability.

Please tell us what kind of build they did for you, barrel length, twist, .223 or 5.56 NATO, etc.

Inquiring minds want to know.

The only parts I've had problems with are BCG's. Had 1 break at the cam pin hole after 500 or so rounds. Everything else is OK so far.

I don't know a lot of guys who run kit guns, but the two model ones I have seen did not run. One crapped out at Blackwater and the other was not working at the time I saw it. I heard both required rebarreling to work. Maybe I just saw two crappy one but there are plenty of good manufacturers that I do not understand the interest in these dollar store guns. With the price of ammo being what it is the cost of a good upper like a Bravo Co or LMT and a dollar store upper is not that great in comparison.

I guess the good thing is at least the panic buyers are mostly charging around trying to grab cheap stuff so hopefully the good stuff will come back into stock quicker

A couple buddies and I have run there varmint uppers with good results.  Like one of the other posters said look the bolt carrier over check the staking. We take seven or eight guns apiece p-dog hunting so this is a cheaper way to get another gun ready to go.

I emailed Model 1 this week and asked them what thier wait time is and where do they buy their parts. this is their reply:

"WE get the barrels from E.R. Shaw. Receivers come from L.A.R. Grizzly and Stag Arms. Handguards and stocks come frome Rock River. Right now there is a wait time of about 14 weeks. "

Buddy who has been using them for awhile told me he received a barrel from them that was marked DPMS in the past. I don't know where they get their LPK but with parts like these you can't go wrong. My next kit will be from Model 1 at the recommendation of my buddy!!!

As of Wednesday Nov 26, they are now working on orders from November 3.
Prior to this point the orders were taking 5 days to fulfill each day of orders.
As soon as the election happened, their sales and order volume went through the roof, so it is quite conceivable that it could take 2 to 3 weeks to fulfill each day of orders, post election.
i.e. once they start on November 4 orders sometime next week, November 5 orders may not start being built until 3rd week in December, November 6th middle of January...etc.

My pistol upper ordered on Nov 5 could still be 3 weeks out.

I ordered an in stock 7 1/2" 9mm barrel from Model 1 Sales in mid-November.  They shipped me a 5.56 barrel instead.  On four occasions over the last two weeks I was promised that the correct barrel would ship out by their telephone customer service representatives.  I think that they finally did ship the barrel out yesterday (fingers crossed), but it took daily calls to them to get it done.  The customer service reps seemed annoyed by my calls and were not very helpful in resolving this issue.
Their customer service has really slipped and they seem unable to deal with the current rush.
As a licensed manufacturer, I have had the opportunity to make purchases from many suppliers over the last few weeks as my normal suppliers do not have any stock.  If you have the choice, order your items from PK Firearms, Bravo Company, Rainier Arms, or Brownells instead.  They have the items on their website in stock, and have excellent customer care despite the current rush.

Yeah I ordered a kit on November 15th, and then read about the huge delay on filling orders.  I really need the parts before Christmas, so I decided to let them know they could ship everything unassembled and that I would do it myslef.  I have since tried calling everday (can't get through), emailing (must be on ignore), faxing a letter (no reply), and now I'm about to send a letter via snail mail.  I'M REALLY STARTING TO GET FRUSTRATED!!!

Nope, standard in customer service. You under promise and over deliver.

Also, if anyone calls in to ask about an order, maybe ask if you could get it quicker if they shipped it unassembled, the upper that is. I wonder if they would do that, you would think it would make it easier on them.

I just completed my first build with a complete kit (minus lower) from M1S.  I ordered mine on November 5th, and it arrived on Dec. 8th.  Originally they told me it should arrive around January 5th.  Yaay for me.  Down side is that my bolt has no ejector, ejector spring, or ejector pin!

Hope the parts come quickly...
