I went to a "fun show" this morning and started my hunt for the elusive AR stripped lowers that have been scarce lately. I began my hunt for one end of the building and started working my around and down the aisles. I came to a table on the first aisle and Bingo, AR stripped lowers! This guy was not a dealer but an avid gun collector/builder and had ordered way too many for his needs so he was selling off the extras he had. The lowers were Essential Arms manufactured here in Krotz Springs, La which made it more appealing to me being a Louisiana native, his were $160. I decided to look around before I made my purchase though. I searched high and low there and only found one other table that had any, they had DPMS lowers for, get this $200 stripped! I said no way, that dealer even had S&W complete lowers for...gulp...$499, he was out of his mind I tell ya!  Anyway I made my way back to the first guy I saw and made the deal, which was awesome because he wasn't a dealer, no tax and no paperwork!! SCORE!!!

Although this wasn't without a casualty, I had to sell my beloved lil P-32 to fund this project! I know I need to have my arse kicked, but thats the only way to get it started. I am worried about the availability or lack thereof in getting these lower's so I bite the bullet! Somebody there got a great deal on a P-32, 4 7rd mags and a box of ammo!  :-[

Now I feel better about this project, I was able to handle several different types of AR, mainly varmiters and tactical versions to see the differences and weight's. I have convinced myself thanks to the advice of several people here to skip over a bull barrel version and stay with the HBAR version, much lighter, yet still plenty heavy enough (barrel type that is). So it looks like a want a :

16 or 18 stainless barrel w/mid length gas system
flat top upper, standard bolt, free floated tube hand guard
RRA LPK with their 2 stage trigger
Ace skeletonized stock

Now optics for this one is another story. I probably won't have enough money to buy some good glass for it right away, so I guess the Accushot will move over to the AR and the red dot sight I have will find a more permanent home on the SU-16. I would love to get a Nikon 3-9X40 or bigger scope for this project, but I haven't given it much thought right now. I will finish the build then worry about the glass for it. Mrs Brewster build looks mighty nice, so I'm watching that one close. I might one day many many moons form now buy a 6.8 upper for this rifle. But wait, I don't know if I can do that yet, guess I'll have to check into that. Anyway here's a new family pic, I know, you see one stripped lower you've seen them all, but this one's mine...all mine!! ;D

If the front detent pins kicks you butt for a while I had to trim the spring off about 1/32 then it snapped in on first try.
AAAARRRGG thats all it was.
Flame if I was doing something else wrong but it worked for me.

How good is the Essential Arms lower I got?? I don't seem to see many being used here lately, I could have got a DPMS for $200, but figured that they all should be the same quality. Any opinions/advice about the build? Thanks Guy's

Rinnie, not familiar with Essential Arms. Your build plan looks good. Post some pics when you got her up and running.

After some of the things I've read lately, I don't feel so bad about paying $10 extra for the DPMS I picked up for $149 a week 1/2 back.

Essential Arms makes a great lower, you should not have any trouble out of it.

I picked up a DPMS lower last weekend at Long Range Gun Alley in Grand Cane near Shreveport for $125 out the door.  I built it into a complete lower this evening with an A2 buttstock,  Stag LPK, and CMMG trigger.  Good stuff!

Yes, it was at Lamar Dixon Expo center. The prices were outrageous to me. For example .223 ammo 500rds for $329! The S&W complete lowers were listed for $499! Crazy I tell ya, buncha price gouging SOB's. But I got what I needed.
