| I have a Bushmaster ar-15 with a 14.5 barrel with a Fanthom Flash Suppressor. I want to put a Larue hanguard and gas block. How do I take off the suppressor so I can slide on the gas block? |

You can't use the Larue guards unless you remove the flash hider, which is permanently attatched to keep the barrel legal. It is pinned and soldered to the barrel. To remove it would be more trouble than its worth.
You would have to heat the solder, drill or cut out the pin, break the flash hider..leaving you with a barrel with burnt or discolored anodizing, possibly damaged at the crown and needing a smith to true up the muzzle...install your handguards by removing the FSB and then adding your new gas block, then permanently attach another phantom flash hider, since at 14.5" it would be illegal and most flash hiders on the market won't bring it past 16".... If you want something as nice as the LaRue I suggest you get the Daniel Defense Omega 2 piece quad rail or another 2 piece rail system on the market. Troy Industries makes one as well. This way you don't have to do anything to your barrel, gas block, or flash hider. |

If it's permanently attached to the barrel (it should be unless you have a registered SBR) then you'll have to destroy the FH to remove it & then re-perm attach a new FH to the barrel after you install the FF rail. There's a do it yourself walk through sticky at the top of this forum that explains all of this. |

Long story short, you're stuck with the FSB and flash hider that you have unless you want to spend considerable time and expense on the methods mentioned above.
The Troy MRF-C is an excellent peice, I'd look to go that route. You're going to have to cut your D-ring off to mount it, but thats not really a big deal. Two cuts with a dremel and you're done. Better than having to go through all of that BS with your flash hider. |
